Me too for the tank. I think the EFI bikes are easier to care for in the aspiration department. The technology is superior IMHO> I like the old tank. I bought two, one in 05 and one in 07 that was an 05.

I never considered a newer one. But I am left wondering why we don't have them active here. Are we maybe not too nice to them? Or, do their bikes need so little maintenance that they don't need us?

The poll is young, we shall see over the course of the week. Maybe we have more new ones than we think.

84% 08 and under now so its dropping a little.

Triumph should build a Retro version of our Retro style bikes
Newer technology with the "cool" style tank, spokes and other original goodies

#1 Stick with why we came back, looks old school/cool, but totally modern as possible. Actually 'cept for 1 750 Honda, Triumphs and 1 Beezer are the only brand of bikes I have ever owned. I am sure fairly sure I'm not alone in that respect.

I agree with most of that, however I still like my carbs. Not sure why, maybe cause I'm OLD AND GRUMPY!

Triumph has accommodated the look by their carb looking throttle bodies, obviously they are trying. What other bike has done this?

Oh I agree the "look" is there and granted EFI is typically less maintenance but I can't work on one one the side of the road.

I can't work on my fuel injected car on the side of the road either. I don't think we have lots of EFI failures to speak of.

Look at the backfire/starter gear issues that kill our bikes. Also not to take lightly the coils and CDI issues we have had.

There are a lot of things that can leave us stranded. A flat tire in a tubed tire on the side of the road can be interesting to say the least.

Us old farts don't buy the new ones I guess. But somebody is, why are they not on BA.com?

I am also left with the question of sales numbers. Maybe the Thunderbird took sales from the smaller brothers. Maybe the sales increases after the market crash in 09 were in the sport bike models and ours are not selling.

I dunno.

89% pre 2009 at this point. Granted we have a 6 year period vs. 4 but the ratio seems high. I was thinking about 30% would be post 2008.

Well fine, I guess I don't know either. But if you keep up this kinda talk yer gonna make me sell um both and go buy a EFI Tiger XC 1200 fully decked out with all kinds of electronic gizmos and heated crap. And I'll really like it but miss my "colonial cruisers" and end up hating you! So

The poll doesn't afford inclusion of Cinnamon Girl(prefire) and Prudence(2007). Prudence was the latest model considered for purchase, as the changes made to that model year were about all one could take. The positive changes were the 865 motor, blacked out motor, and triangular rear peg holders. The negatives were the 865 camshafts, the tapered shrouds and most disturbing, the narrower steering stops. Most annoying indeed. The alloy wheels are in between as they are not the best looking gal in class but you can still plug em.

But Dwight, if they don't join they don't know about you guys yet. Then again, maybe they joined and read your guys posts, got scared and left.

Moe, pick one both are pre 2008 unless you are on Greg dating then the pre-fire is 2001.5

Well maybe you should make it your mission to call EVERY Triumph dealership in the WORLD and make it mandatory that everyone buying a new America or Speedy register on this site before accepting keys.

Then you will need to call every DMV or whatever they are called in other parts and find out all of them that have been sold USED and then personally go door to door and FORCE this lovely forum upon them or require them to surrender their machine to "The Family".

Warning: My coffee is begining to kick in!

All the forums I am a member of except pipes magazine dot com are much slower than before. The pipe one is still rocking on at a good clip.
Seems abit strange but f@@@ book keeps on rolling............. . Even though everyone claims to hate it.
Yep I am on that site but dont post much and I dont much look at it either.

Are the newer ones selling?I don't know. I would guess a lot of guys want more HP and bypass the Speedy/America.
I WISH Triumph would wise up and do a production option 1000-1,200 engine, as the sportster 883 or 1,200 does.

Sorry,I've said all this before a FEW times

P.S. I LOVE my America but a bit more grunt would be fantastic

Bruce, at the Daytona Beach dealership, was selling the Thunderbirds by saying how the Americas and speedies don't have the arse for interstate passing. I left him with a piece of my mind.

Moe and Paul may be on to something. Maybe they are just not selling. I have been to Arizona twice, California, Florida twice, Myrtle Beach, Kansas.

There is not a thing wrong with America or Speedy. I think maybe the masses want more displacement though. I do know most don't want the chain.

Actually my America will do all I need and more grunt "could" see me getting tickets from the cops but I'd still love to try a 1200 America. The T-bird just doesn't do it for me in the looks dept.

Well, I can understand the "angst" here gentlemen, however that salesman's only mistakes were that he used the definitive phrase "don't have" and over-specified the action of "passing" by adding the locale of "Interstate" in his little Thunderbird sales pitch.

Because first, almost all "Interstate" roadways possess at least two lanes or more in each direction of travel and thus most often making a "passing" action a needless action, and secondly and as I believe we all REALLY know, our otherwise terrific motorcycles in stock form do not posses the greatest of passing power while traveling along a stretch of only two lane(one in each direction) blacktop.

(...though as always, one CAN usually utilize the limitations of any vehicle to its fullest advantage given enough time and distance)
