The "Real Biker" Test

My Score
85% to 90% - Congratulations. This is Biker Country! You can hold your own with veteran Bikers and need not take any crap. You've likely been messin' around with motorcycles for a long time. You'd have to love "sickles" to know this much about 'em!

My score.
35% to 45% - It is time for something a little larger than that Moped your big sister handed down to you. Get a real motorcycle and there still might be hope.

I'd call #15 a trick question "The infamous Jesse James was", with was being the operative word. The bike builder Jesse James is

I'm there with you, dude, with a miserable 35%. However, I'd like to point out that (a) I ride a Triumph, (b) I know the derivation of the word "Poo-Bah," and (c) I ride a Triumph. I know I said the Triumph thing twice, but I feel its so important that it bears repeating.

Siggy

This "quiz" was NOT written by a "real biker." If it had, there would have been at least one question about beer, or at least beer consumption.

Other questions should have been about hard tails, what is a "fat bob", springers, proper-side foot shifters (right side, of course), and so forth.

As one who used to construct and grade tests for a living (high school teacher), I give this "Real Biker" test a C minus....

Oh, I scored a 45%.

bah...humbug...crock o' $hit, if you ask me...i've got 3 tats, but that's not enough, I earn a decent salary (like, who the h could live on $15k or less?), apparently I don't carry enough tools to repair a Harley, so that doesn't count either, it marks my correct answer for #2 INCORRECT, and I'm prohibted from owning firearms for a year because of an altercation ( ) so I'm not a "real biker" ... ...how do I make a loud fart sound in type?

45%, Maybe if they didn't ask so many questions about Harley's I'd have done better.

I'm not too impressed with this test. I don't think any of the derivations of 1%er is correct and none of the definitions of high side is really accurate.

And while I think about it, who cares about the other questions either. Since when did a biker have to know anything about CHiPs?

Chris...to answer your question....they don't.

But, seeing as how Ponch and John for the entire run of that series basically did nothing in each weeks broadcasts but patrol the VERY SAME stretch of the Glendale Freeway, of which behind them were the VERY SAME exact cars of which SOMEHOW when they rear-ended each other, tended to FLY in the air and land upside-down, a phenomenon that for some reason I've rarely ever seen take place in actuality on these L.A. freeways that I often ride upon(of course, THAT'S in the RARE occassion when the average speed on these freakin' freeways exceeds 17mph)......
......I'd say a "Real Biker" wouldn't have had to watch very many "CHiPs" episodes to get THAT particular question right.

Cheers,
Dwight

You're right. The term originated with an MMA official spouting about outlaw racing events and how hardcore bikers and outlaw racers that gave others a bad name were only 1% of all "motorcyclists".
At that time, the MMA had a rather inflated opinion of themselves. They were only tollerated by the average person on a bike because motorcycle records made at Muroc and Bonneville were more likely to be accepted by the FIM if there was an MMA rep looking over the shoulders of the SCTA officials.

Might be stepping out onto the thin ice by challenging the great Greybeard's knowledge, but shouldn't that be AMA and not MMA?

Doesn't being in an actual altercation make you more of a "REAL" biker than having a gun. Does having a collection of 18th Century French pistols then qualify a real biker?

Test was probably written by a couple antique gun and movie collectors who belong to HOG and ride to a quasi biker bar (also known as Hooters) on their Friday evenings after a hard week beating down caseloads and root canal treatments....

Yep Greybeard,

I remember in the '60s, when this "One-Percenter" moniker was used to differentiate those who "thought" they were "Real Bikers" from those who took pride in the fact that they knew loving all aspects of this sport didn't have to mean breaking the law.(well...no laws but the SPEEDING LAWS, that is)

Cheers,
Dwight

Well, I got a 0% on that stupid golf quiz, and I'll sure get less than that on this motorcyckle quiz. Didn't I read somewhere that Triumph is about 0.54% market share?? Maybe we're all 0.54 percenters? Doesn't roll of the tongue very well.

The MMA have recently been part sponsors of the Screw Laughlin run, an event that sprung up after the increased police presence at the more famous Laughlin River Run because of the violence at Harrah's casino made that event a run through a gauntlet of police checkpoints.

I like their way of thinking. These large events are just becoming money pits for the locals who want our cash, but also want to make sure we don't have too good of a time by hiring every off duty officer within 200 miles, and giving them free reign to harass anyone they want. These mega events aren't about being a biker anymore, it's more like a vacation to Club RUB...a secluded spot where normal citizens are kept out by astronomical prices, or harassed away by police in riot gear.

Number 7: Honda -Give me a break
Number 1: Indian and Harley- Where is Triumph you Poser?
Number 2: Should be "B" (They disassociated themselves from the AMA)
Number 16: $0-$15K -Yeah Right! most Hells Angels earn 6 figures these days.

Who ever wrote this was an idiot!!

I also got 30%, but then hey, I do own a Triumph, live within 20miles of Triumph, bought my first Triumph direct from Meridien factory (lived 3 miles from that factory then), don't earn dollars, don't watch films, cause I am out on my bike, have had icecles on eyebrows a few times, ride in the rain (yet to find a HD rider over here that even has bike that knows what rain is!!) And to answer that quiz YES I DO OWN A BIKE!!!!
There tantrum over!

well, i quit my job today and took a job at Wendy's so I can meet the income criteria, that should bring me up from 50 to 75%. Now if I can find those "Born to Ride" lick'em tattoos my kid had, I'll be ready to hang with the Angels (after I swap out my Triumph badges for Goldwing Badges)....

Paul,

Considering that back in the day you bought an old Meriden Triumph directly from the factory and appear to have grown up in that section of Ol' Blighty's Midlands, can you give us your take on that old facility, and any impressions that stand out in your memory.

I've seen photos and have read accounts in a few books and magazines about the workings there, but they tend to focus more from the "Official" side of things.

I think it would be interesting to hear from someone who can give us their perspective as an outside observer with an apparent long-held interest in motorcycling, how they thought and felt Triumph affected the Warwickshire area before and after this concern began it's downward slide in the 1970s, and years later when the new factory in Hinckley was announced and subsequently built.

Cheers,
Dwight
