Yep, they fold up quite nicely and tuck out of the way completely. The left-side kind'a folds into a little niche right behind the primary-gear cover, the right-side flush with the counter-shaft sprocket cover. You are right though that when deployed in the down position, you do have them slightly touching the inside of your calfs at stoplights. I just place my feet out a few inches farther on the pavement, when they're down.
