So I too now have the doomed coil. I figured it out with a little help from a few posts back. Ran the bike till it got hot and shut off and boom, ohms on the pickup is reading infinity. Is there a spec for the coil when hot? I have a manual but it doesn't have any specs on the components. Just how to remove and install them. Did find the really basic stuff up front but again, no specs. Anyone got a clue where they are? Oh, and anyone have any luck getting Triumph to cover this as it seems to have happened to a lot of people.

The above thread ONLY addresses 360* twins. What (if any) differences would there be for our 270* motors?

Yeah, and the way he is doing it is different. He's going through the complete circuit to get total ohms. Same same really.

This Post confirms that the resistance should be around 601 ohms. Mike had a similar problem and confirmed the failure by placing the pickup coil in a pot of water then heated it up until the circuit went to infinity at around 130 degrees. Read the post. Very comprehensive and in the tech vault. Just to confirm, you are testing the pickup coil...not the ignition coil - right? Forchetto's post tested the ignition coils on a 360 Bonneville.

We have two coils, the 360° motors use a single dual output for that famous wasted spark output. I can't think of a reason to use a different pick up coil since the rotors send the firing info.

Yeah, I am testing the pickup coil. I know 600 and something is when cold. But what is the spec when hot? The Triumph manual is awful.

Shouldn't really change cold to hot.
