My bike has done this from day one. It is not consistent, but typically happens on a cool/cold morning the first time I pull out onto the road. It only happens that first time, never again on the same ride. Never happens when bike is warmed up. Always assumed it was the clutch slipping. Sounds like a beagle getting kicked in the ribs.
