Don't know if the new America's and Bonnies have the same oil filter set up but that is the only part I've come across on the bike that the design sucks. The filter sticks out a little too far out of the bottom of the engine and leaves the filter vulnerable to damage. On one of the Philly Cheeseteak rides my buddy (Jethro666), who also has an America, had a rock from the car in front of him hit the side of his oil filter. It punched a small hole in his filter. Luckily there was an auto parts store down the street from the sub place and we were able to throw the new filter on in the parking lot.
I built a steel plate to cover mine. It straps to the frame tubes. It seemed like the safe thing to do considering how low the filter sits.
