Newbie question, I'm replacing the front tire went with the Kenda Kruz 130/70-18 after reviewing a lot of posts here, thanks. I have seen here and on other sites about wiping down the new tire using "Goof-Off" to help with the break in time. Good idea or is it detrimental to the tire?

all you really need to do is ride it, it's fun and easy

That is what I would say.
Start slow & easy, don't test any limits of the tire at first. Gentle lean for turns at first. I have started in a big parking lot making a big loop in one direction. Then decreasing the radius. Then the other direction. Newness wears off and then ride as normal.

I agree with the " just ride it" plan. I've been around for a while and I can say I've never heard of using Goof Off on tires. I mean where's the fun in that

It should be hot enough in NC this time of year that 100 miles would be more than sufficient and way more fun than rubbing it in by hand.

Now all the above is wisdom, but then how long would it take to give the rubber a brisk scrubbin'? But Goof Off ? Nah, that stuff stinks and costs too much. If ya do it, just use any good degreaser.
I had a new tire put on in '08 and was doing the "cautious" thing and went to turn left and the front end just scooted right out from under me. Smack down in the street. Just go easy.

Ya i would just use a good degreaser and wipe the tire down to get off any left over residue. I have gooten new tires in the past and did nothing with them and was fine, but never hurts.

I've used the Goof-off thing for years. You can rub your finger
on the tire after & feel the difference.
Sure, you can just "ride it", but if one of those "moments"
happens, you can't brake as hard until the mold-release chemicals are gone.

Danger. degreaser could melt the rubber. Or run down and make the tire slick. Not good .

I ended up just scrubbing it down with Dawn dish soap and hot water, that seemed to take most of the residue off.

Thanks!

I had the back slide out with a new rear. Luckily it was in my driveway.

I use some carb cleaner on a rag then hit the surface with a scotch brite pad.

Doesn't everybody!??

Seriously, NOT the rotors, but I DO lightly sand pads and shoes. Arc the shoes as well. When the rotors/drums get turned, they don't polish them.

I alway shake the stale current out of my electric extension cords when I'm done using them, too.

Well, that one time the bike came out from under me because I forgot to wipe the slick stuff off the tire causing me to limp around for a couple weeks, then almost a year later having to go to a chiropractor to work out a pinched nerve that had been making it so I couldn't lay flat on my back for more than 10 minutes is enough reason for me to keep up with my ritual of wiping the tires before the first ride.
