Dwight, I'm talking about personal aesthetics of dress. This may shock you, but even James Dean in his private life attired himself in traditional ivy league American clothing. Newman was actually an Ivy leaguer, Harvard I believe.
This shouldn't surprise anyone Ivy style was mainstream men's attire post WWII till the late 60s. With the GI bill enabling the middle class to attain college educations Ivy or collegiate style clothing was no longer just for the eastern elites.
