We finally got out for our first "real" ride of the spring. Other than an hour or so the other day, today was the first ride my wife has had on the Indian.
After spending the last 4 years on a Vision, she was pretty resistant to it at first. But by the end of the day, she was loving it.

I have never had much urge to own a Harley after almost 50 years of riding but I could be talking into owning an Indian. That is a sweet looking bike. That big GPS on the handlebar almost looks crazy given the very retro look of the bike!

I have to say I love the look of that bike. It looks that part for sure. The brown leather with conchos and fringe. The flathead look and all, I could see owning one but not for the price they are asking.

Thanks.
The GPS is a must. It pained me to mount it on the bars but it's so much more convenient than a map flapping around in the wind.

It's a bargain compared to the old hand made Indians from a few years ago. They started at around $35K.

I agree but still more than I want to pay for a bike, if I was to part with that kind of cash it would be for something from the 30s or 40s or maybe an R3T.

I'm still drooling over getting one. Probalbly never gonna happen. I AM planning on going up to the big city over the summer and looking at one up close. I'm hoping that I won't like what I see in person so I can stop thinking about it.

Sorry Rich, but that(not wanting one) ain't gonna happen....especially once you test ride a couple of 'em like I did a while back.

(...'cause I want one even more now!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Thanks for nuthin, Dwight! Still, is it unethical to test ride one ifn there is no way I could get the money? And, I'm already lusting after one, so ifn I liked the test ride, wouldn't that just be adding cruelty to angst?

We've got a dealer not more than 5-6 miles from where I live. I went and checked them out last Saturday. Very nice bikes. They did a really nice job on them.

And then, my neighbor across from me, the one who has 2 Harleys (including a new watercooled one), just traded in his Harley "wet-head" for a red Indian, not a chief. He rumbled on in the other day and has been carrying a big ol'sh*t eating grin since then. He's been showing me all kinds of cool stuff on the bike. He's been riding bikes for over 17 years and works as a car mechanic, so he knows his stuff.

He's already raving about how much better it rides, compared to his Harley wet-head. Oil change at 500 miles, another at 2,500 and every 5,000 miles after that. 5 year warranty.

His only real concern is the leather. it's beautiful leather but the Indian dealer warned him to be sure uses conditioner on it on a regular basis or it will crack and look bad.

He did say the pricing on accessories is exorbitant.

Now, I'm very tempted. Although I'm not sure about having a having such a big heavy bike. It's well balanced, but I'd be apprehensive with a bigger bike.

I did tell him he cannot park his bike outside when mine is there. We can only have one awesome looking bike outside at a time to distract everyone. LOL

I got my Indian in October and have used mink oil on the leather twice. Not a big deal. The real issue may be that the leather color will fade if left sitting out in the sun. Even that's not a big deal. You can get a bottle of leater dye for about $8 and do all of it.

Even the fringe.
