I don't know that. How do you? I mean, all we've seen so far is the engine and the headers coming out of it. And remember, the classic postwar Indian Chiefs had a 2 into 1 exhaust, and so I would think Polaris would try to mimic that also.

The line of the rear fender isn't as long as shown in the silhouette on the Indian web site. Naturally, we're expecting a machine with full fenders that will be very "Indian" but a heck of a lot prettier than this drawing.

I'm also thinking the shocks are all wrong. I expect a single internal air shock like the Vision and Cross bikes have.

As far as the exhaust, if you look at this video HERE at the 31 second mark you'll see there's a pipe on the left side which indicates dual exhaust. One thing Polaris/Victory learned from making bikes is that by having dual exhaust you can make saddle bags deeper.

THREE days now to the reveal.

Another thing a fellow on a Victory site just pointed out - in this drawing the drive belt and rear brake are on the same side.

I don't know why this picture keeps popping up. It has nothing to do with the completely new design from Polaris. Which we'll being seeing very soon

Kevin reposted this picture of the now discontinued Chief to make a point about the rear suspension, Bill.

His contention being that this model had a "softtail" like rear suspension, and so his thinking apparently was that that "leaked" rendering of the all new model showing a twin shock setup probably isn't accurate.

However, once again, the classic postwar Indian Chiefs DID have a twin shock setup, albeit in a "plunger" style.

And so, I personally wouldn't be that shocked to see a twin shock setup such as that leaked rendering.

(...though in 4 days we'll all know for sure, of course)

Yeah, I understand the suspension reference, but like I said, the new Chief is a completely new design having nothing to do with previous incarnations of the Indian brand.

And since they are trying to be faithful to the classic Chief I agree with your thoughts on the rear suspension.
Unless they want to try for a hardtail type look.

They won't have shocks IMHO. Victory does not make a bike without a softail. I doubt they will start now. I think they killed the Kingpin because of the Indian type lines.



I guess the name is going to sell. Kawasaki didn't do too well with the classic Indian look. Not many drifters sold before discontinued.

From the outset, Polaris has indicated they would try to keep the "heritage" of the Indian brand while incorporating modern technology. So while I'm expecting fully valanced fenders and of course the very cool-looking engine, I'll be wanting the performance and convenience that come with modern amenities like a single internal shock, fuel injection, disc brakes, self-cancelling turn signals, tubeless tires... you get the idea.

Really nice looking bike. Pretty heavy, but I kind of expected that.

Gotta say, can't stand that front guard!, or the back one for that matter. That lovely modern motor needs to be housed in something a bit more contemporary for my taste's. But to each his own. I'm sure it will appeal to some of the ..er older riders around.
Hope they are successful though, good to see Indian back.

They really are priced to sell. Also, I think they are great to look at, but not my style. It looks to me they did it right. The Chieftain's fairing does seem to have a bit of Victory's style, I think.

Around here (BA.com) we're known to modify things a bit or two.

Strip it down, and hi-lite that motor some!

And YES, the TREKKIES will love the damn things as-is, kinda like them Visions, or what-ever their called.

IMHO... It's a pretty bike and I hope it sticks around this time. The brand image has never been given a chance to develop away from this deep fender old school bike into something that looks more modern than a 50s bike.
The faring... I like Victory fairings and their bikes but I do see too mic of it in this bike and that has been bugging me. I don't hate it but I don't like it.
The motor seems interesting. I'd like to ride one but I'm sure that test rides are non-existent for these things.
Overall a little underwhelmed by it but there's a side of me that is quietly hoping they can make it and develop the brand.

Like I said....just my opinion.

The reviews I've read from moto-journalists and folks in Sturgis today are pretty solidly pro-Indian. The Indian demo truck wll be making the rounds in the next month or so, check your local dealer for a ride on one.

The look of the bike is pretty much as I had hoped/thought it would be. Definitely done well and not a disappointment in any regard.

Here's what I thought was interesting though...I placed my Sedona zip code in their new website and it said the nearest Indian dealer was in Scottsdale about a 100 miles from my home and which was definitely no surprise. However, when I placed my old zip code in the L.A. area into it, surprisingly the nearest Indian dealership shown was in central California and over 200 miles away from that very motorcycle-centric and potentially very large customer base. Wouldn't you think by this time the Los Angeles area would already have at least a couple Indian dealerships lined up and ready to start dealin'?

(...and btw, I think I might ride down to Scottsdale and test ride one of these beauties when their demo truck arrives there, and just to see if they handle any better and have more lean-angle ground clearance than a Big Twin Harley...though I doubt they will)

I think Penske Motors will sell them in LA Dwight. Polaris talked about talks with them to be a dealer.

They expect to have over 120 Indian dealers by the end of this year. That sounds like an awful lot, but let's give it a couple of months. After all, the bikes were only released on Saturday night.

I'll be doing demo rides in NJ on August 23 & 24. Anyone within 100 miles of Union, NJ up for that?

They arent going anywhere....Polaris has deep pockets and has already shelled out over 100 mill to brings these beauties to market..
I love it...and i love the bikes...just have to decide which one.....have to get the Vic paid off first....btw...i see very little Vic in these bikes...i think they have the same Aluminum backbone as the Cross bikes...which is a good indicator that they will handle like a dream. but other than that ...not there

I'm going way out on a limb, but I'm predicting a Scout or similar design and/or an Indian 4 within 2 to 3 years. Considering they produced the Chief from the ground up in 2 years, I don't think it's much of a stretch.

I think the bikes came out pretty decent. I totally agree with Z on these. I hope they can last. They are never gonna get the Harley guys away from HD but for people with an open mind or people like us who like something different, they might make enough to keep going. If they can last for 10 years or maybe less you'll start to change some HD guys over, maybe. We'll see!

have to say, I'm a dedicated Trump rider but if I were to spring for a new bike (last time 10yrs ago , a Bonnie America) besides looking at what Hinckley has to offer I's SERIOUSLY consider an Indian
