I don't know how the roads are where you are but up here they suck. I have a 3 mile stretch on the way to work which most resembles riding a jackhammer. I'm not sure I would trust it. I might try a heavy duty clamp on the frame tube with a piece of steel going to the bracket. If that doesn't work I have a friend who can weld something up.
