Is cable lube part of your regular maintenance?

I've developed a tiny little squeek in my brake lever. I'm going to do some maintenance on it tonight, but it got me thinking about my cables.

Do you regularly lube yours? Is that something I should be doing as part of my regular maintenance routine? I go through my T-clocs fairly often, but I don't do a lot of regular maintenance other than chain lube and tension and oil.

We don't need no stinkin cable lube.
Honestly I've probably only serviced the cables a couple of times over the years. The only one that every snapped was that pretty chrome braided piece of crap clutch cable that all the vendors were selling at one time or the other.

Our cables have an inner lining that is supposed to eliminate the need to lube. I never lube mine and still going on the cables that came on it in 04. I have ridden in quite a few heavy downpours too, haven't seen any rust on them either.

Since I was 14, I've NEVER lubed a cable.
I even bought one of those little aluminum blocks that go over the cable housing end to help lube one about ten years ago, but never used it.
I've been fortunate I guess, as I've NEVER broke one. I'm guessing that the cables on my '71, '72, '80, and '82 bikes are original. I KNOW I'VE never changed one on them, and, I KNOW the cables on my '99, '03, '04, and '05 have never been lubed OR replaced.

So I'm gonna say "NO".

I lube mine if there off.The stock clutch cable does have the mentioned sleeve and seems thicker than the same piece of junk that Mikemm03 mentioned and I also broke.
