Classic tank vent hose blockage reaction. I'll bet the vent hose was under water and the crud that was in it melted and blocked the tip. Loosen the tank filler cap and see what she does...then after you clean the hose you might as well cut the vent hose at a 45° angle (away from the front) so it doesn't happen again. Doubt the tank is contaminated but you'll know when you drain the float bowls by the amount of water you find (or not).
