Similar for car hobby. The main thing to consider is that unlike so many other pastimes; if you decide to get out of it, you can recoup a pretty good chunk when you sell.
Consider an avid golfer. Green/cart fees, super cool golf clubs, travel costs, etc. A golfer hangs it up, and that's that. sell the glubs- maybe, but pennies on the dollar.
Scuba (which I do) is similar. Equipment gets outdated pretty quickly. selling it isn't worth the hassles.
compared to others hobbies, I wouldn't sweat it. Especially when you can use your bike for commuting and errands and are actually saving money on fuel.
I broke my purchase down by how much I use it. My first ride cost me 100% of what I paid for the bike. The next ride cut it in half that; and so one. Heck with this logic by the time I ride it a hundred times, money should be spitting out the exhaust!
