Leather and Lace... Here you are thinking I am going to have photos of my Speedmaster with a young lady wearing leather and lace draped over it. You wish. As you would have seen in this thread I had made a tank bib from an old leather vest. I finely got around to putting some leather lacing down the sides of the bib. I am no leather worker by any stretch of the imagination. I watched some YouTube videos on how to do this. Bought a hole punch, some lacing and some needles and off I went. I do like the look of what I have made. Typical of me, rough as guts. I had another old vest lying around. What can I use that for? Top fork tubes could do with covering. The leather on the top tubes makes my eye think the front end is lower than it is. I might try to cover the speedo housing next with leather.

Why do motorcycle manufactures not put centre stands on bikes? Do they know how hard it makes doing even routine maintenance? The Speedmaster does not have one. It does now. I bought one from Techox eBay store. Fitted it this morning. Needed a bit of filing on one of the mounting bushes. The instructions warned of this. Seems to be well made. Means I can now oil my chain without having to push it for a few kilometers as I oiled the chain bit by bit. Stop making bikes without centre stands you lot.

Gaiters The previous owner of my Speedmaster had it fall over on him. The left hand lower fork shroud had a crease in it from this. These are metal. I tried to peen the crease out. It did not look nice. The crease had been damaging the plastic sealing ring around the top of the fork leg as well. Seeing as I had a set of 50 year old Honda fork gaiters lying around doing nothing I pressed these into service. They came off my CL450 Brat build. Used the rubber top rings out of the Speedmaster fork shrouds in the top of gaiters. Some WD40 and a bit of pushing and shoving and on went the gaiters. To me they seem to make the front end look longer.

The square bar end mirrors I had fitted just did not suit the look of the bike to me. So got the ole thinking cap on. I have the OEM mirrors. I have mirror extenders. Put the two together and I have a round bar end mirror. Also proves how cheap I am.

Also let it be known that 6 year old rear tires and 7 year old front tries are fucken awful. I had a set of Brisdgestones fitted today and was shown the date on the Metzelers that came with the bike. Yet the bike is only 4 years old. So maybe some idiot somewhere has changed to an older set.
All I know is that in the rain these slide all over the place.
It was so nice to ride with real rubber hitting the road today on the way back from getting them fitted.

Hi all. First post here.
Bought this 2009 Speedmaster 5 days ago. Has just under 6000kms on the clock one owner who did not ride it much by the looks of it.

I have just come straight off a 1200 Bandit to this.
I love it. Have had lots of twins over the years and wanted to go back to them so bought this.
I laso have a rusty old 1971 Honda CL450 that I am brat-ing/cafe racing.
I'd say. It looks bran-spankn' new. Nice find. Welcome to Triumph heaven. Love my speedi.

Planned obsolescence, motorcycle tires are now made with a synthetic rubber that apparently rots by exposure to the atmosphere, I went through the exact same thing, tires with 1200 miles usage and cracked sidewalls and scary traction, just from sitting 4 years. Your bike does look museum clean, you got to be happy with that.

Over the last few months plastic has been melted and foam carved. Cutting wheels, abrasive flap wheels and bread knives have been flayed about at the bike's seat. My bike fiddling obsession has driven me to make a cut down solo seat. Plus a p-pad too later on. I wanted a lower look and ride from the Speedmaster. So used the original Gunfighter seat as the victim of this seat torture. I have leather standing by ready to be dunked in hot water and then shoved and pulled into shape around the seat.

Kung Fu "Enter with Grips on"... Biltwell stuff. I am really loving their products. I have already sampled their mustache handle bars. The welding on those is top notch. I have since stopped using them. Not because of the bars. Just wanted a different look to the bike. Now I have their Kung Fu grips fitted. Will these grips make me look like Bruce Lee? Time will tell. They seem to be made from a rubber compound. Look a bit like grips we used to use on our push bikes back in the 1970's with their raised ribbing. Should they them be called Ansell grips? As I use bar end mirrors and the Kung Fu grips are not open at the bar end I had to use a bit of steel tubing to punch the ends out. Put the grip over the tube. Place the end of tube that has grip on it on block of wood. Then hammer the non grip end of the tube. This will then punch out a circle of rubber. So now your grips are open at both ends. Fit to bars with some WD40. They are a real tight fit without WD40. This soon soaks up or dries. I had to take the tabs off the throttle tube closest to the switch block so the grip would go all the way up. I used a sharp knife to do this. So far the grips feel way more comfy than the original Trumpy grips.

Fiddling again I has been. I have gone back to the original Mickey Mouse looking mirrors. Why? With the 3 inch bar end ones I could not see much behind me. Of late I have had to do some freeway commuting. I want to know if I have a Highway Patrol coming up on me. As much as I hate the look of the mirrors at least I have a BIG clear review now. The rack has been lowered. This meant cutting and drilling. When refitted of course I scratched the paint work on the rear mudguard. Much cussing was heard. Looked stupid that high up and once I have my solo seat fitted it would look even higher and stupider. Raised the headlight with two large cast pipe nuts. For no other reason that I think it looks better higher up. Added a leather strap over the chrome battery strap. Again because I can. I like chrome but not too much. Just some general shots cause I love the look of this bike.

The insider tip to mounting grips is to use hairspray. Really.

Read back a ways, "So today I fitted a set of Biltwell Mustache bars to the Speedmaster". Ya gotta read the whole thing.

The newer bars, not the mustache bars. I was thinking of trying the chumps, but I really like the flow and height of those newer bars you added. Beautiful bike by the way.

They are SCORPION H/BAR LOW WESTERN 1 INCH 34 INCH W, 3-1/2 INCH RISE.
As I am in Australia where I got them from will not help.
These are 1/2 the price of the Biltwell bars I have.

Try this guy FRONT CYCLE
Also see if you can get a set of Biltwell ACE Bars. These are no longer made by Biltwell but some still stock them. They are what lead me to getting the ones I have now.

Thats not the bottom fin. It is the rubber ring around the fork bulging through the gaiter.
These gaiters came off my 1971 Honda CL450 so are not made for the Speedy.

Me seat is horrible to ride on. Feels good at a standstill. Once the bike is moving forget it.
I have learnt a lot while making it. It cost me a packet of rivets.
It comes off tomorrow.

You will be surprised by the comfort of a seat that is so thin. Albeit, I had to add one of F.Eddy's generic backrests to make a long distance ride tolerable for me.

The seller of this seat said the same thing about how comfy it is.
For long rides and two up I have the touring seat still.

A P-Pad that may never get sat on. Thats what I have made. Its not comfy at all. Its just there for show. Took several goes at getting the leather cover right. What started out as smokey grey in colour leather is now medium brown. My fingers are stained brown from the dye. I had riveted the leather to the seat base. That did not work. I had too many folds as the leather went around the curves of the seat. I had intended to lace the leather cover on. Should have done that in the first place. The colour does not match my solo seat. No way was that going to happen looking at colour swatches on a computer screen. I like what I have done. Maybe I should do a leather working course.
