Hi all. First post here.

Bought this 2009 Speedmaster 5 days ago. Has just under 6000kms on the clock one owner who did not ride it much by the looks of it.

I have just come straight off a 1200 Bandit to this.

I love it. Have had lots of twins over the years and wanted to go back to them so bought this.

I laso have a rusty old 1971 Honda CL450 that I am brat-ing/cafe racing.

Cheers guys for the welcome. Have been having a read of the different forums. Great info here.

LED indicators are starting to go on it at the moment.

Leather saddle bags and a sissy bar have been ordered.

1/2 way through fitting LED indicators.

Rear is done. Front will be delivered today.

I did not like the Triumph ones at all. Big ugly things. Plus LEDs are brighter.

Also replaced the rear light globe with an LED Globe.

Leather saddle bags will go one as soon as they get here too.

The indicators that came with the bike ...shudder... They looked crap. So onto eBay and get some front indicators and rear one from local autoshop. Fit a LED flasher relay all done. Looks way better too. Brightness from such smallness.

Need something to carry stuff around in besides my old Dr-rider sports throw overs. Again internet shopping. Leather saddle bags from Bikers Gear Australia. (http://www.bikersgearaustralia.com.au/) They are of a very good quality leather. They have been mounted with bolts to the rear mudguard brackets.

Also slid the forks up by 1/2 inch to help quick up the steering. Makes a wee bit of difference.

For years I have made or modified bits to fit my bikes. Back yard butcher stuff.

With the Speedmaster I have changed this. I picked up my Triumph Sissy Bar and Rack today.

Well made bit of kit it is too. Fitted straight up with no worries at all. So nice not to have to bodgie bits to fit.

Jan now wont fly off the back of the bike.

Sweet looking bike. Looks brand new. I really like the red/black colour scheme. The girls like the security of the sissy bar. The indicators are a big improvement.

Digging the bike. Red/black was always the best stock color of these bikes IMO. The new turn signals do look the business. Welcome to the forum. Lots of good folks here with some very good info.

Zach it's totally acceptable if you and Richard like the common red/black colour combination.
I, and more decerning owners,on the other hand, prefer the more elegant, cultured, refined, superior blue models.

Supercheap Auto sell relays for the Motorcycle Led indicators. That's what I used. My rear indicators came from there as well.

Paul Paul Paul, blue is for geezers.
Just kidding, I do love the blue bikes as well. Not my original color though. New England Blue and white or something. It sucked. Sorry to those who have that color currently.

Well Zach I guess you're right, I and other "Blue" "geezers" live in a more refined ,less uncouth world.
It's ok for "ratty red" owners to be in Bizarro world

Just kidding. ANY America/Speedmaster is Tops with me!

Playing around with different mirrors. I have one old bar end mirror laying around. Makes the bike look a whole lot lower without those big stalked ones sticking up. I have a set of small napoleon bar end coming in the mail. These will replace this one.

Throw Over Saddle Bag Support Plate (In Custom Corner)

If you have a look at the above thread you'll see a pic of mine with its new bar end's. You are so right about giving it a lower look. I think it looks just great. Hope you like yours.

The mirror fitted is just a stop gap till 2 of these get here.

Yours looks good. Knocking the OEM mirrors off helps the sloping lines of the Speed to standout more.

Bottoms keep soft.

The Gunfigher seat on the Speedmaster looks great. Suits the lines of the bike down to a tee if you ask me. Yet looks are not everything. Not when your wife can't really sit for any period of time on that sloped perch.

To fix this I bought the Triumph Touring seat. Pillion area is wider, a bit higher and not sloped backwards. Jan has sat on it and said it feels way better that the original seat. A two up ride will show how good this seat is for her. Reviews that I have read on this seat all rave about how comfy it is for both pillion and rider.

I also noticed that the riders position on the Touring seat is different to the Gunfighter. The rear slope of the riders position is further back. Also it seems to be a bit lower.

I have also fitted a set of Emgo handlebar mirrors. They look like cafe racer napoleon style but rectangle and smaller. These I have mounted to the holes for the original mirrors. The lower profile of these mirrors suits the style of this bike to my eye.

There was some cutting off of the bit that has the expanding clamp fitting over it. I did not want to drill the mirror mount holes in case I go back to the original mirrors.

You can buy tank bibs from Triumph. They are very well made by the looks of them.

I made my own. It is not that well made. I don't care. I like it. It was made from one of my old and very well worn out leather vests. An old bum bag that 20 odd years ago used in the screen that was on the Virago I had back then. This is to hold small things etc. Some padding that is used to stop plates marking the dinner table was used to pad between the tank and the leather bib.

On order is a set of Biltwell Mustache Bars.

Mo Bars.

You have worked out that I like to tinker with my bikes right?!

Of the 16 bikes I have owned over the last 30 odd years has had something made, bought or customised on it. Its what I do. I can't leave well enough alone.

So today I fitted a set of Biltwell Mustache bars to the Speedmaster.

Why you ask? Because I can. Cause I wanted some more comfort from the bars. The Triumph ones are good. They are flat drag bars. I wanted more rise. I also wanted the bars to be narrower. The Biltwell's have sure done this. The Speedmaster's risers are already 4" high. The Mustache bars are 3" high. I like where this places my hands now. Being 3' narrower than the standard bars helps me too. I have short arms. Was finding it hard at times when I had the bats at full lock. Not now.

I bought my bars from http://www.mcas.com.au/ Great service from them too.

The bars came in the traditional Biltwell covers. I love little touches like this.

The bars went on with no dramas at all. Well that's not exactly true. The front brake master cylinder touches the top bend of the bars. This is because I have the bars tilted back a bit. They are not bolt upright. Also the right hand indicator mounting bracket hits the curve of the bars in the same area as the master cylinder. I did not grind or cut anything to get clearance. Just allowed them to sit against the bars.

I did not have to move the throttle cables to the right side of the bike nor did the brake hose need to be longer with these bars, That is a big plus for a simple bar swap.

Rode the bike around for a bit after fitting the bars. I love the ride position they put me in. A bit more upright. Good for my back. Also being narrower makes lane splitting easier too, Not that I would ever do that.

Next I might get some red coke bottle grips. They will then match the red of the tank.

It took many hours of research to decide on those bars. Much looking at the bikes shown here. Comparing the dimensions of different bars. In the end it came down to the moustache bars and a ace bars. The final thing that settled this was the height of the bars and I did not want to change any cables or brake hoses.
