I just put a new chain and sprockets on my 2004 Speedmaster. I changed the front sprocket from a 16 tooth to a 17 tooth sprocket. Now I have just a little vibration/buzz during acceleration that I didn't seem to have before. Since I can't seem to find anything causing it, I'm wondering if it is just from being geared up a little.
Has anybody else had this happen?

my bike seemed to have a tiny bit of buzz when I went from a 17 to an 18 tooth, maybe it was because the 18 was aftermarket and didn't have the rubber bushing piece...

Didn't think of that, but my aftermarket didn't have the bushing either.

Check for an uneven wear pattern depth on both of your sprockets, you said they were new, so the feedback you see is pertinent. If the shiny wear isn't even, both sides, reassess your chain alignment method. The wear pattern on the inner part of your chain can tell a story as well.

I'll check for the wear. I measured the back of the swing arm to the axle and got them within a couple of tenths of a millimeter from each other on each side.

Could be the increased torque required to get her up and going.

I never was a fan of robbing from the bottom and putting it on the top. I prefer to get more somewhere and put it on top and bottom, plus smearing it around in the middle as well.

Doesn't really seem to have a problem getting up and going even with the 17 tooth. I changed it because I had habit of getting on it hard and hitting the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd gears a lot, and I kept trying to shift into 6th gear, which it doesn't have!

It could also be that the new chain is too tight. I tend to keep my chains adjusted on the loose side of the recommended adjustment range.

Am I correct in saying the standard length of the chain is 112 links? If this is so, when changing the front sprocket to a larger will the same length chain be long enough? I have an 05 865 with a 16t on the front and want to go to an 18t.

There is a lot of adjustment on the back wheel. You shouldn't have any problem.
