Has anyone drilled triple trees before to fit a different size riser bolt? I'm looking to put a set of risers on that take a 1/2 20 bolt.

Ian (The_Dog33) knows the numbers for a set of metric to half inch converter bolts to keep from drilling. That said, my bike came to me drilled out and I've been running aftermarket Harley risers (ebay) for years. I do wish the PO had been more careful as he scratched the tree top with the drill bit before it got into the hole.

I drilled mine out with no problems. Make sure you have a sharp bit, a 1/2" drill's got more power, get a helper to shoot a little WD40 or oil as you drill. But then once you drill those holes out, you can never go back to the smaller stock bolt setup.

I did mine like Ian, but I just got a 1/2 all thread bolt turned one side down and rethreaded it metric. I really didn't want to F with my trees.

the triples are made of a fairly soft grade aluminum alloy and are very easy to drill out. Almost too easy, I would recommend using a drill stop (of some sort, even duct tape would work)so that you don't suddenly drill thru and have the drill chuck mar or scratch the top of the triple.
if you have to go back to the smaller size riser screws then it is easy to get a bushing to make up the hole size.

Yeah, I just hated the thought of drilling a soon-to-be-collectible bike. Were there any black '02 bikes that weren't pre-fire?

I also bought a stainless bolt and turned and threaded one end and used stainless nylon lock nuts. Didn't want any rust. I replaced the allen bolts in the riser cap with stainless too for the same reason.
