those of you that know me know the story of my first 20 yrs with my wife and how i was a bad boy. there were times when my inlaws were done with me heck there were times when my own family were done with me hahahaha but my mother-in-law has always been kind to me with love and understanding. not always taking my side of course but always welcomed me and never shuned me thru it all. And now she is nearing the end of her time here and it is taking a heavy toll on my wife, so i am foregoing my trip to Ga. this yr as i am taking my wife to Mi to spend time with her Mom. I have to say that i also am going to miss this woman being in my life as she is one of the kindest people ever put on this earth. i have had a lot of friends that were not able to say that about their mother-in-law and in that sense i feel very fortunate. the sadness here is 2 fold as i have been to every Ga rally and will miss being there very much and am losing her in my life. i am sure this will be the best rally ever probably wont rain once, the temp will be perfect, and nobody will go down (at least thats what i hope) and i will miss seeing some of the best people i have ever known. so ya'll just go ahead and try to have a good time without me, i know it will be hard but i trust you will muddle through. and i will be back next yr good Lord willin and ya'll can take that as a warning hahahaha
ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

I'm sorry to read this, newt. And not just the sad news about your mother-in-law's health, but ALSO about you not comeing..err..I mean coming to the Georgia rally this year. Ya see I was hopeing..err..I mean hoping we would meet there so's I could fill ya in about that "superfluous e" in some of your spelling and while enjoyin' a brew or two together. (...sorry, couldn't resist that one, ol' buddy...and yep, if I can get on next Thursday night's red-eye flight out of PHX to ATL, you would have finally had the "pleasure" to meet this smartass here, 'cause I'm plannin' on ridin' the Tail of the Dragon with all those nice folks back there this year on a rented Moto Guzzi!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I'm sorry about your mother-in-law, Newt. It sounds like she means a lot to you. Good on ya for putting family first and supporting Sue. There will be other rallies.

It seems to be rare to have a good Mother in law. My first one was pretty poor, and sometimes crazy and my second one is better, but we're never gonna be close. Family is always more important than a rally. You're doin the right thing.

I lost my Mom-in-law a couple years ago. We were close. Of our four parents I was probably closer to Lib than my own parents. She was well educated, somewhat proper, but might, out of the blue respond to a question with, "Why do you ask, 'two dogs f*&king'?" (I assume everyone has heard that one)
She was tough. She and my father-in-law split about 15 years ago and she lived alone a couple hours from here. She called Ruth to let her know she didn't think she had long. That was Friday. She answered the door to her house. By Monday she was gone.
Safe travels, Newt.

If you have been married to the same women for all these years then her mom must have many of the same attributes that attracted you to your wife and kept you together.

My Mother-In-Law departed us about 3 weeks ago, and it was a very difficult thing to go through.
If I recall correctly didn't you recently turn 60, so I guess your maturity is starting to show.
Our thoughts and prays are with you, and your family at this time.
