Reminds me of a situation here. a cop called in for a lunch break. Sometime later while still on lunch (= off duty) he ran a stopsign at 50+ mph in a 30 zone, hit a pickup broadside and killed one of the occupants. The other occupant was unable to work for some 6 months. The cop was put on administrative leave, which I guess means he gets paid for nothing. The case was moved to the next town to the north so he could be assured of a "fair trial". Nothing happened for about 18 months (to let the dumb folk forget) and the cop was found guilty of 45 in a 35 zone. Nothing more. A few weeks later, the same judge dismissed all charges against some doper that shot up a birthday party.

Like Al Capone used to say, "Why hire a lawyer when you can buy a judge?"
