Both of his fans will just love it.

I'll wait to hear what he comes up with. There's a long tradition of American artists memorialising national events, both happy and tragic. "The Star Spangled Banner" comes to mind, as does "Woodstock", "Ohio" and many protest songs.
It does seem strange to announce the writing in advance.

Not a follower of Neil or his career, but I hope his surprise appearance at Fenway wasn't just a PR move.

With the internet and complete freedom of information and the highly competative nature of journalists getting the "scoop", there will never be a chance for anyone to hide thier cards anymore, those days are gone. I'm from Boston. I know people who were injured. The trooper from the Bomb Squad who pulled suspect 2 from the boat is a close friend of mine. Many of my friends were involved in the manhunt. While the kid was just outside of the perimeter so he did go unnoticed for the bulk of the day, he had been hit the night before and this was known. when he was pulled from the boat, he was near death. There certainly was an element of luck in his capture, (a citizen noticed blood on his boat cover), the same is true of Timmothy McVeigh's capture. It is amazing that 2 terrorists, who thought they'd never be caught were grabbed within 5 days. The decision to lock down the very small city of Watertown was a wise one, not only to capture a terrorist who had already used a WMD to kill/maim a great # of our citizens, but to further protect the surviving citizens from a now desperate fugitave who still possessed more WMD's. It is not strange that all who question the decision seem to be from locations far away from Boston. All this said I hope and pray that nobody here is ever effected by a horrible situation like this. There is 4evil in the world. These 2 morons picked the wrong f#%$in' city to bomb!
It is understood where I live about 8 hrs drive from Boston that the whole city was locked down. I hope no one has to go through a situation like this be it here in N. America or anywhere else in the world but to put it into perspective approximately 65 people were killed in Iraq during that same week due to bombs going off.

The lockdown debate will continue because free people usually operate better as a pack than a herd. But, my guess is that the lockdown was as much to protect the citizens from over worked and stress law enforcement, as seen recently in the California man hunt. We'll have to wait for all the after action reports to be sifted through to know the whole truth. This has been a Fed investigation from the beginning and unfortunately they play very close to the vest, which is why the media got so many "facts" wrong. The Feds have a problem of not sharing info with local law enforcement, which sometimes make the locals look poorly. In this case the local law enforcement seems to have operated exemplary. This is what happens when there are too many CPAs and lawyers in the FBI. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eK38i8AlbfQ&list=UUebMr2nWJwpviG_simt9B5A

Its easy to complain about did happen with out offering a better way of handling the situation. Thats all I have been hearing, how its so terrible that they locked down the town. No one has offered what would have worked better. I dont think rush hour traffic and people going about everywhere was the best thing for public safety at that time.

We'll have to wait and see. I'm sure law enforcement at all levels are analysing the questions of what failed and what worked. We know the media is, to their credit some have apologised for their misreporting.

I think that a lot of people believe that Boston was locked down. It was actually the town of Watertown which is a small suburb of Boston, and in fact, it was where this guy was located. It would have been horrible if they never found him. I do appreciate that lives and limbs are being lost a much more rapid rate in Afghanistan but that is a war zone. Boston was only a war zone for 5 days before the enemy combatants were identified, disarmed, killed and captured. Unfortunately, Afghanistan will be going on forever and ever; I'll bet property values are a bit lower than Watertown.

Yeah Paul! In fact, Zillow is showin' that in Kabul one can get a nice 4 bed-3 bath house WITH a "safe room"(which "might" come in handy) AND a 3 camel garage for a VERY reasonable 100,000 AFS, and heck, THAT'S only about $20,000 USD at present exchange rates!!!
(...AND I hear it's a "Buyer's Market" over there right now, so who knows, one MIGHT be able to get an even BETTER deal than THAT!!!)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Maybe, but I think it's more the issue of just another mother in world defending her little offspring no matter what sort of allegations are levied at them.
(...yep, 'cause how many times have we heard of some lowlife's mother after her offspring have committed some heinous act say that old refrain of: "But he was always such a nice boy!"???...yep, it happens ALL the time and in ALL the corners of the world!!!)

Oh, I'll agree with you on parents defending their children. I see that almost every day when some overzealous media person stuffs their microphone in a grieving mother's face just to insure their spot on the nightly news.
But the comment about not caring whether she dies or her younger son dies; that's not common. Then there's the Allahu Akbar comment.
But, this is just an observation, I don't want this to turn into a political rant or get the thread shut down.
