Just curious. If one wanted to visit Canada from here in the States, do you need a passport now? Fourteen years ago my wife and I rode up and across Canada and came down through Niagra Falls. I've heard that a passport cost $700 or more. Does an American really have to spend that kind of money now to visit our neighbors from the North?

Yes you'll need a passport or one of them biometric driver licences to cross into Canada . As to cost, $700 for a passport sounds like a total rip .

US Passports FAQ's This should answer all your questions. If you only want to go to Canada, you could should probably get away with paying $30 for a passport card.

Thanks for the info site. I didn't know about the $700 part, just what somebody told me. Obviously not right.

You could just find a remote area and just cross over.
Would they deport ya?
I figured with NAFTA we would all just have a free for all.

Maybe it costs 700 dollars to buy a black market passport (at a blue-light special discount)! But I know a guy . . .

Actually, Dwight was willing to help me get out of the country to the South, at first. Something about a "sandy" shortcut, using wire cutters. Good thing youse guys are lookin out for me and protecting me from "con artists".

Just go north to the Dakotas find the Red river and float on in on an inner tube. This time of year you can claim you were sand bagging up stream and fell in (along with your suitcase wife and kids)

$700 We go to The Great White North every once in awhile. It's only about an hour and half ride. But you should use a passport as its the best I'd you can have. I think I paid$130 for mine through the county clerks office.
