Hi,
I already have both full and half helmets. However my half helmet feels like it catches a ton of wind and actually makes my neck sore. Do all half helmets do this? Do you have ones you prefer? I'd like one that looks decent too.
Thanks!

All do that and none look good. If you want a free one it laying in the median between the north and south bound lanes of I-59. I would rather cut my beard off than wear one. I wear my Icon airframe or my Jimmy retro or I dont ride simple as that for me.

Apparently the best way to wear a half helmet is to buy a really small one, probably a novelty helmet. Put a ball cap on backwards, then cram the really small bucket on top of said cap. Tighten the d-rings to choking position, ride and enjoy.
At least that seems to be the dress code at most all bike nights.

I love my half helmet in the summer, I get no buffering due to my windshield.

That sucks I was hoping it was just my cheap helmet sucked. I wish there was a happy medium between feeling caged in (full face) and neck strain (half)

There is. The 3/4 helmet just might fit the bill for you.

I disagree, I wore half helmets for years until they got rid of the helmet law in Pa. None of mine catch the wind as described A. You need one with a good snug fit. B. The shape matters and so does the design of the ear pieces. C. Wear the helmet forward on your head with the front low touching or almost toughing your eye protection depending what you wear. D. sometimes a small snap on visor helps too depending on the angle.

3/4 shells work. Mine is great until about 85mph. I wear a jimmy retro 3/4 out on the back coutry roads and on city streets. I wear the fullface when I hit the interstate or if it may rain.
With the half helmets its a matter of aero dynamics. They work like a wing. So unless you can get a near air tight seal to your head with it then its gonna try to pull your head off at certain speeds. Unless you break that on comming wind with a wind screen.

I disagree still, I wore an old 1/2 from the 60s and it catches no wind at all as long as the chin strap is done right and I don't let it ride back on my head. It has leather ear pieces that come down to my cheeks with holes cut to hear through. It is just a fiberglass shell with old football helmet construction inside.I still use it when I ride across nanny states.

They still make that general shape and strap design.

True, I have to wear ear plugs or I literally can't hear for a couple hrs after I take it off.

I wear a Scorpion exo-100 and I love it. No wind catching and not noisy. Very comfortable too once it's broken in.

Well, I've never been much of a helmet guy( but lets not start THAT discussion) When I wear a helmet, I have a couple of full face for inclement weather but for a 1/2 or 3/4 helmet that doesn't tear your head off, in my personal experience, I've been pleased with my Davida and my Bell 500...... plus when you wear them they are retro cool....

I use to have a HJC half helmet, that I could not wear when riding at highway speeds due to the wind pressure. A couple of years ago I bought a Daytona skull cap (1/2) helmet with Visor (DOT rated). It is a much more comfortable helmet, with very little wind resistance, and obviously much quieter due to less wind resistance.

Also Daytona helmets uses four different shell sizes depending on the size helmet you wear. So, the helmet I have weights 1.54 pounds, and will cost about $56.00. They also make the same helmet with a built in inner shield for about $10 more. They also make the same helmet using a composite shell instead of fiberglass, but it cost about $150.00

I'd have to disagree with the snap on visor. I pulled mine off for this very reason. When I ride at speed the wind would get under my visor and choke the $#!t out of me. I have since removed the visor and it is better without it for sure but I still get a litte pulling on the neck when I am above 80-85 mph.

That's the same reason NASA got rid of the snap-on visors and chin straps on astronaut helmets.

A lot of this talk, (meaning ALL) 1/2 helmet, visor, no visor, lifting, wind resistance, wind noise, choking, ect... ALL depends on rider position and head/neck position. If you angle the top of yer little bean holder fwd and down ever so slightly it greatly changes YOUR aerodynamics, thus changing all the aboved mentioned irratations. Don't beleive me, give it a try.

Hey SMG!
Got a question for you. Does your full helmet catch the wind or make your neck sore?
If not, maybe that's your answer right there...

I only feel comfortable in a full face helmet. Or I don't ride.
