now accepting suggestions. also, anyone who can write up the programs, get in here.

things i've thought of:

etching stuff into the sprocket cover. maybe a union jack or something predictable like that.

that be all.

I cut and oval recess into mine to accept a belt buckle and I cut a design into Wendys cover, polished it and drilled a hole for the pewter rose head. That rose is a blue dot that lights up.

I was looking at some really cool spiderweb derby covers for HD but haven't gotten around to measuring to see if they are close to the right size. I have the stainless Triumph part that comes on the old SM on mine but was thinking about changing it.

This is just a small sample from J&P Cycles, they have a bunch more and other suppliers have even more.

Been machining since I was 18. The last18 years or so programming setting up and running CNC mills. Have access to Mastercam and I am half way decent with it. Can do 3D and surfacing routines. What kind of machines?

I run Haas machines all day long. If you send me something I am pretty sure I can do something for you.

I can generate 3D files, but converting them to a CNC compatible format, not so much... Do you know how to convert files?

Lzrdking- yeah, me too. I'm mostly looking for help with programs I think.

Benny I would imagine. I think the engineering dept is still here, I'll get back to you.

edit: nope. i'll talk to them in the morning.

OR if you let me know what file format you need... Then again, I don't have any parts I need made right now

Mastercam can convert Solidworks, Step, Iges etc... You can also import a DXF file but that won't give you 3D. I do all my own programming from customer supplied models. If they don't have one and its not to complicated I create my own. Also have access to Solidworks.

Hey you gonna get your butt to Vermont this year for the Bash?

Edit: just seen your other post. So you are not pregnant . You better do it before August then .

Okay here's what I understand. I guess they're writing the programs longhand. The format he mentioned was step.

But he said he could program an engraving pretty easily. So now my question is, can the round plate on the clutch cover be pried off without bending it?

lzrdking, the dude i work with really doesn't seem up to the task. could you reasonably easily make a program to put this on the clutch cover? possibly with the number 6805 at the bottom, and triumph at the top? (to commemorate my trip across the country and back, 6805 miles) probably too much detail?

he said he could do a union jack, but that's just not cool enough.

Why not look into acid etching? [image][/image]

For something like what you want I would check into the acid etch or laser engraving. You also would not get all the shading aspect in something like that. Ryk's battery cover looks good and would give you more of what you want. Price I have no clue. Ryk what did you pay for that?

If I remember correctly, it was $75. It's made out of .025 Brass shim stock, which is readily available. "Google" acid etching kits and supplies, they are out there as well. I believe mine was as simple as coating the metal with a wax and scraping off what is to be etched with the acid. I heard the process stinks to high heaven and certainly safety/toxic waste disposal protocols should be responsibly followed.

Acid etching certainly does smell terrible. We use naval jelly on really tough corrosion. I hate it.

Thanks for all the input, guys.

I can export STEP files no problem. I'm thinking custom parts here.... like mid-peg brackets

I can program it. The skull you wanted is just way over the top as far as detail to be done on a CNC machine. If you can find something you like less detailed we can still do something.

Well as I think of stuff I'll definitely keep this in mind! How tricky are round items? I could use a bash guard for my mountain bike

Most things can be made Benny. Just a matter of time and cost. Round can be done.
