Going to get these on the bike this week (God willing) but thought I would post a couple pictures along the way. Having installed the 2-1 pipe in Dec, I've been working out the best way to relocate the controls and came up with a couple mounting plates as close to the frame as possible which will have 'busa controls mounted.

The original pattern for the mounting plates was more intricate, but the setup costs for the water-jet & mill were too costly. I ended up creating most of the CAD drawing myself in order to reduce costs, so this simplified design made it a little easier on me as well.

As a reference, the pegs sit about 4.5" below the swing arm bolt & the new shift lever clears the gear shaft assembly/lever by about 1/2". The toe of the new lever is slightly in front of the gear shaft.

I'll put up more pictures when I mount them.





This is a rough mock up while checking fitment. The sprocket cover will cover a portion after some "trimming"

oh jeez, can you trace them with dimensions for me (us) please??? i could totally counterfit some on the mill at work!

my son is very interested in how these go as he would like them on his speedmaster (when he buys it).

OK, so I haven't got them completely on yet, but here's where I stand. On both brackets, minor adjustments are still needed to simplify the installation in the future. I made everything fit, but the right peg holes needs to move forward & down about 3/8". On the left bracket, the lower bracket mounting hole & the location of the peg holes need to be lowered about 1/4" to 3/8". Each of these changes are needed so mounting bolts clear the frame without modification.

Here's a teaser pic of my fat arse on the peg. I am 6' tall with a 33" inseam. My seat is about 1/2" lower than factory.

Ya know, a while back I did something very similar to what you're doing here, and I gotta say having my feet placement underneath me and the controls there like that just feels more natural than having then out there in front, besides the fact that I no longer am having to sit on my tailbone and the subsequent lower back pain which I found often accompanied such a peg location...especially when I'd hit some larger bumps in the road.

One question here: I can't quite figure out how or where your brackets attach to the bike. Would you expand upon this for me, please?

(...oh, and btw, I like your exhaust system there too...looks like an Arrow 2-into-1...is that correct?)

... Need to bleed the rear brake & re-jet for the new pipe.. Took her for a short spin this eve. Pegs are comfortable & shifting is solid with no play. Overall, I am very pleased. There is some work to be done before I would offer them to anyone..

Three holes don't give enough room for bolt clearances in the back & trying to use the bolt hole for the brake switch as a mounting point proved pointless. The top bolt on each footpeg intrudes on the frame just below where the swing arm pinch bolts attach. In order to fit these brackets, I had to trim the frame a bit. Nothing major & all excess metal anyway. Regardless, it needs changed.

My original plan was to counter-sink the holes that mount the plates to the bike, but I had to cut down on the machine costs.

Here it is finished with the modified sprocket cover in place.


Left side.... I tried to give view to put some perspective on the clearance.


Right side.... you can see the three hex bolts behind the master cylinder that bolt thru the frame.

ya,i would entertain that mid mount as well, might be much nicer for balance and back stuff :-) or it could be i am just getting to bloody old! LOL

Sorry guys.. Little JR is 11 months old & my job has had me swamped. I'd like to sell a few off for whatever they cost me to get made plus whatever any member would want to pitch in to help me cover paying the CAD guy who set up the program. I figure if 10-12 guys want to get them & they pitched in $15 bucks above whatever they charge me to make them, I'd be happy.. I have $300 bucks tied up in the original set including the CAD work. These are 1/2 alum plate that is cut on a water-jet & only a single copy. Additional sets would cost much less, especially if they were going to make a number of copies. If I could get a head count of who is seriously interested, I'll get a price from them... Selling price would be whatever they charge + shipping + any "donation" to help me feel like I didn't just blow as much money as I did...

I would propose I make a couple alterations now that I have installed these. Mostly, they are inconsequential, but would allow some flexibility to anyone choosing different rear-sets to install.

1] I will modify the mounting bolt hole locations. Only two are needed & one bolt head interfered with a peg mount anyway. I originally intended to recess the mounting bolts, but that required additional machine time, & I had to cut costs.

2] Minor change to the area where the rear-sets attach is needed to allow for other pegs & to clearance a piece of the frame just in front of the swing arm. I had to grind a bit away in order to fit one of the bolts.

3] I would recommend that the holes to bolt the rear sets be drilled at the time of install, rather than at the machine shop. Primarily, this would be to allow different donor parts to be used. I trust anyone wanting to do this would be competent enough to get 6 holes in the right place.

FYI-- sure, I blew off posting anything here (don't shoot me), but I found time to make mod #3 this year..

hey Kurt any chance you can post a pic with you on the bike, i would like to see where your legs and feet and up and the angle of the shifter etc. that would be great, but this might be the answer to my "can't find that sweet spot" seating position for my SM. thanks.
