The idea behind a democratic republic is that you do at the voting booth. I know this fact eludes people because they are too worried about if the city counsel members are pro or anti what ever hot button topic you choose that they have no say over instead of their stance on things the do have control over.
So what if the mayor of a city is pro or against a national or issue if they are gonna do things in that city like lay off firemen and police to put up cameras everywhere. Or short cut and take funds from the hurricane evacuation plan and use local school district money to do something else with.
