Replaced the 10a headlamp fuse, bought new H4 headlamp bulb, main light still doesn't work.
Doesn't work when the dimmer switch (hi/low beam) is toggled in either position. Don't know how to measure for 12V at the toggle switch, sorry 
Oldroadie mentioned the relay... where is it located? Where else, besides the fuse box (12V is present there) can I check for where the 12V gets lost?

The relays are on the frame spine under the tank on carbed bikes.Pull your tank and you will find. BTW, if it is a bad relay, go to an electronic store with your old (bad ) relay and buy a new one for $2.75 or get one from BikeBandit for a small fortune.

O'Reilly Auto Parts: BWD brand #R3177 relay is a direct replacement. You can test the socket for 12v at the same time you replace the relay.

That smaller bulb comes on with the parking lights.

It is the parking light but I think it's always on. I seem to remember a thread where the poster used it to get home when the headlight went out.

where was I reading that when the headlight takes a dump, remove the right rear turn signal bulb and drive home with the right turn signal on? What does removing the rear bulb do? Keep the front bulb from flashing? Oh yeah, I read that in an AMA article in their April Street rag.

Yes, plus the "tip" said to pull the amber lens off. I guess the higher rate of flash would keep the illumination a little more constant. Not a bad tip if you're caught out in the boonies at the dark of the moon. Our parking light does give off fair illumination as long as you roll pretty slow.

Yep, it was the relay. I pulled it, used contact cleaner, and brushed the contacts off. Left the socket alone, it had plenty of grease. It had been replaced before, as it's blue in color. Neither the turn signal relay or the headlight relay was mounted properly.  Both were drooped over, relay facing down. Mounted both properly, so now maybe they won't collect rain? Thanks!!!
