A fellow that works at the local Cycle Gear bought a new Speedmaster (I think it's an 2012), while chatting the other day he told me that when he hits around 96 or so his bike bogs down. He cannot break 100 mph (he lives out in the country without traffic and good roads). Have they added speed limiters on the newer bikes? My 2010/11 BA hits well over 100 without problem.

Does your buddy have a windshield and bags? What gears? Maybe it needs to be remapped, has he changed pipes?

I know I used to run out of steam when running the 18t front sprocket. After going through the 18t, and a 17t front after that, I put my stock 16t back on and I'm sticking with it.
It's just so much more fun, anywhere in the range, any speed. So it revs over 5K a lot on the highway. Get used to it! The rev limiter doesn't kick in until 7800!

His bike is 100% stock, reading a few things online point towards a rev limiter placed on 2011 & later.

Yes, there was a thread on one of the forums. The latest models had a speed limit in the tune. Not sure he his was in the UK or here in the US. Seems that the TORs tune was the fix as the "feature" is one of those undocumented items and not accessible via TuneECU.
09 America, some modifications

About 100 to 110 is all they will do out of the box with a big fella on em. But mine now will kick it on upwards of 120. And will get there faster than it would get to 100 now. With a few minor modifications. These things have very restrictive intakes and exhaust that severely hamper performance.

Pods jets and more open exhaust make these babies wake up pretty good. Mine has a sigle carb on it and runns like hell. I had a fella on a big jap cruiser like a Vstar try to punk me but I stayed right be side him staring wildy at him smiling like a hungry hyena. Before went around him to and pulled away laughing like a mad man.

Crap, my 2008 America (AIR Kit) wont break 85. Have a stock 18T sprocket. I'm perfectly content cruising at 70-75, but passing a column of trucks with the engine tached out doing 85MPH can be a white knuckle experience, for sure. Maybe I should trade it in for that HD I've had my eye on LOL

You are jetted wrong or something. Spend the money on a Dyno run, if all you need is more top end, it's there , you just need to find it. Both of my bikes hang side by side with Harleys, no matter how fast they want to go. Neither of them are set up as special as many of the bikes shown on this forum.

+1 I can easily hit an indicated 120 mph and I run 16t front and 42 rear with few mods but no big engine work just carb work, blueprinted, pods.

My EFI with only Stainless Ride pipes got me pulled over for 114 mph (with some twist left)...good thing it was a bike cop that had not seen a new Triumph, we chatted for awhile & I put my speed in check. I am 180 lbs.

So Brett, have you ever balanced out your carbs? Just wondering. Sometimes little things mean a lot.

Smoothed out the intake and exhaust, where the parts meet I got rid of as many of the lips as possible for a better flow and less unwanted turbulence. You want turbulence but not the kind mismatched parts create.
