Hey all, on my America I had saddlebags, and bought a used sissy bar. The bolts that came with the sissy bar were the same length as the bolts that hold the brackets, and they are not long enough to hold both the saddle bag brackets and the sissy bar onto the fender.

Does Triumph spec longer bolts for when we'd have both on the bike at once? Regardless, is there a spec I can refer to for getting some proper bolts?

Thanks in advance,

I'm regularly changing mine back and forth from solo to 2-up and don't remember the actual length. Take one to HomeDepot/Lowes and pick up a slightly longer match. BTW, they strip easily if not lined up just right (and juggling the fender, sissy bar and saddlebag brackets is a PITA), so I just keep a jar of them in different lengths. If you look around, you'll find them with a knurled hex keyed head that do make it easier.

You dont need a spec. You only have to figure out how long the bolt should be. As a general rule the bolt should go all the way through all supported members and thread fully into the nut. In other words the bolt end should go into the nut until it is at least flush with, but preferably protruding through the nut by a few threads. To determine the length of bolt you need, add together the thickness of the additional components and add that number to the length of the stock bolt. Get the bolts from your local bolt supplier. A place like Fastenal or Granger . I get mine from Conroe bolt just down the road from my shop.

Ace Hardware stores generally have a good selection of stainless and chrome bolts

Thanks - I wasn't sure if there were any issues with thread pitch or whatever.

Take a stock bolt with ya and the fellas at the hardware will easily match them up. Good luck let us know how it works out for ya.

Fwiw, what I have is an 8mm x40mm, 1.25 pitch, but I need an extra 10-20mm or so with the brackets I have.

No dice from places like Lowe's or Home Depot - the closest they have are 8mm-1.25 x 40mm in oiled finish.

I ended up ordering from Monsterfastner.com - 60mm length, which ended up being a little long, but are stainless steel.
