OK, my insurance is due for renewal tomorrow on the America and the R3. Carole Nash kindly sent me a renewal price of £354.83. I decided to get some more quotes (who renews these days without shopping round?) so I went on the online comparison sites with varying degrees of success. It's still amazes me that the drop down menu things still don't list the America. Speedy yes but no America. We must be so exclusive and special I guess. One company said they wouldn't insure me because the America has alloy wheels instead of spokes. I said but they are still America wheels, just off a later model. Still no joy. I questioned if they wouldn't insure alloy wheels, how do they insure later model Americas WITH alloy wheels? I called Bikesure and got some discount as I'm a MAG member (it's worth the annual membership just for that alone!!). I then called Carole Nash back after I got the quote from Bikesure with the " I'm leaving so give me some massive discount" routine. It didn't work. They could only get one company to insure the America because it was a non-standard paint job. £655.49!! WTF? I'd have thought painting bikes was quite a common mod. Yes? Anywho, Carole Nash can blow it out of their ass, Bikesure get my £247.88 fully comp for both bikes

That SUX. Not sure if that's a yearly rate, 6 months. But if it makes you feel any better I pay $69.48 USD every 6 months on my 07 Speedy.

There seems to be no rational basis for insurance rates. I just had all my policies requoted. I use three different companies (home, auto & bike) solely due to the dramatic price differences.
With my bike insurer (Geico), I pay a total of $139 yearly for the America and the Honda. To add the little 150cc scooter - worth less than a grand, would add $600 per year!
My homeowners insurance company (State Farm) wants almost $800 more per year to cover my cars than 21st Century charges me.
My guess is that you told Nash you'd added the alloy wheels - they don't like modifications. Sounds like Bikesure did the right thing for ya.

Mine fully covered is 156 per year.

Wow, and I thought mine was bad. I used to pay about $1000/year but luckily change a couple of years ago and am only paying $460/year. I just did an on-line quote for my wife's new bike and it is only going to be $229/year. They also seem to have special discounts for more than 3 bikes as well which might help when I try to convince the wife I need another bike.

Uh huh. Iah takes full advantage of the "Ignition Breaker Points, Kickstarter and Non-ABS Discount" that his insurance provider offers! It's the Speedmaster that's the bulk of his charges here.

that is bare minimum liability to get the tags and all I carry.I get the experienced rider discount and renewal discount as well as the multiple bike discount. I am with Aegis (sp?) a friend of mine used to work in the industry as an agent and specialized in bikes, he hooked me up. Also all are under 1000cc, there is a fairly steep surcharge for any over that.

I tried a quote from Carol Nash myself this year, I already have a Classic policy with them on my BSA, as Ade said they did not know of an America but after putting me on hold it was ok. They do not like any non standard bits at all. Especialy exhausts. I have a multi bike policy with a company here in NI and renewal was £300 thought I would give Carol Nash a go but they wanted £360, so I renewed with my present. Adelaide Insurance, they cover the complete UK if it helps anybody out.

1000 per year! WOW. I pay 500 canadian a year for full comp on everything replacement value of 8k. Without comp i would pay about 1/2 of that, sometimes i think its not worth the extra bit for the comp part, but i have been known to drop my bike! LOL

I too tried Carole Nash last time I insured. They had no problem with the America but they were super expensive, the best quote was £90 MORE than my renewal with Devits. I'll ask them again when I renew this year as the club I'm in gets £10 for every quote made on a special number

What's even weirder is that they sponsor bike shows that have custom sections

My insurance runs about $120/month for the TBA, and about $33/month for the Honda 350XL. And that's with the 40% safe driver's discount!

I am getting ready to pay for my bike insurance. Both bikes (02 American & 07 Tiger ABS 1050) run me $258.00 per year through GMAC insurance. When I first go the Tiger I got quotes from Allstate, State Farm, GEICO & Progressive at around $1000.00 per year just for the Tiger.

WoW MAN,thats like $1800 a year to be able to ride for five months.Thats not why I left BC,my truck went from $144 to over $800 and that was with all the stars driving record I held in ontario. If I am stopped and fall over its not going to cause $1000 damage which is what my deductable would be here if I carried all the comp.i dropped the coverage last year,it was 700+,now I down to three and change with Jevco.

I've have only used USAA for thirty five years. I call them up, tell them what I'm insuring and they write me a policy (which has always been less than anyone else). Policy service and claims can't be beat.
I also have a Mastercard with them at 5.9% and a car loan at 1.9%.

I heard the Geico ads years ago and on the radio when I've been in the US and I wondered why the hell they used a Brit accent for the geco. I listen to US radio online here now and I still wonder why they use it. Anyway, my own BTW backatcha - that voice over bloke on the youtube vid sounds different to the one on the ads I hear now. And yeah, it is an Eastenders-type accent .. laverley!
