YEP!

Today, my wife and I had the best ride in years!

A ride down Memory Lane.

We are a Scouting family. My sons are career Scouts, both having started in Scouting as Tigers, achieving the "Arrow of Light" as Cub Scouts, and then achieving the rank of Eagle.

Today wasn't about us. Today was about a family we met in scouts, and haven't seen in several years. Their sons, twins Dylan and Travis, both received their Eagle rank today.

Father, mother, Travis and Dylan

My wife, being a shutterbug, was the photographer, and my youngest son Steven, the one at the GA. rally with me last spring, was the Eagle scout candidate(s) presenter.

I can't begin to express the emotions involved in an Eagle ceremony. I think it is the utmost crowning achievement for the parents and their child. Much more stress and anxiety than anything else, including them getting their high school diploma. With the High School Diploma, you only have to be sure they get to school everyday. The Administrators, principles, teachers, etc. see to it they get what they need, with some oversight by the parents. During the road to Eagle, the parents ARE the administrators, principal, teachers, guidance counselors, etc. NOT saying there isn't a LOT of involvement by others, but it's mainly on the parents and the child.

My boys have been involved in SO MANY different activities/sports, I can't list them all here, but Scouting has had the largest, longest lasting influence on them, and us as a family.

Years after they have received their Eagle, and moved on into adulthood, Eagle ceremonies come along and bring us together again. We re-live the memories, emotions, and happiness at each one.

So today, congratulations to Dylan and Tyler, for reaching the highest rank in Scouting, the rank of Eagle Scout, and congratulations to my two son's, my wife, and our family in being able to witness this great event, time and time again.

ONCE AN EAGLE, ALWAYS AN EAGLE.

1st row Eagle, Steven. 2nd row, Eagle candidates Travis and Dylan.

And a blast from the past, Steven and I

My OTHER Eagle Scout (out of uniform), John

Peace!

What a great write-up here, erle! And, what a wonderful family endeavor to be involved in, too.

Cheers, and my congrats to all involved there!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Congrats, to all in involved. Between Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, I invested 7 to 8 years here in the Central California area http://www.seqbsa.org/camp%20chawanakee.htm this was our summer camp location near Fresno.

My parents and I were involved in scouts when I was a kid. Scouting is a great organization! Congrats to the family and the new Eagles. On a slightly bummer note, around here. Two local Girl Scout camps are going to close down and be sold next year. One of them was a horse riding camp with trails. The reasons given. No air conditioning and no WiFi services, which the girls are complaining about.

Best wishes to all and for their achievement. As a former HOA merit badge counselor, the work, study and time involvement necessary for a young man to complete the requirements for Eagle is formidable. It takes individual dedication and perserverence...and the support of parents, mentors and peers alike. Subsequently roughly only about 2% of Scouts ever make the rank of Eagle!

Thanks!

And when people comment on the Eagle Scout sticker on our vehicles, I tell them "That's MY Eagle Scout Award, my kids get THEIRS when THEIR kids make Eagle!!!

You talking about me? I don't even remember telling you!
I can't be the only one here though, right?

Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

Erle, Congratulations to your friend's sons and to your sons for achieving the rank of Eagle. It is no small accomplishment! And congratulations are also due to you and their parents for taking the time to be involved. Our Troop has 3 Eagle ceremonies coming up this Spring, but they are the first in several years. We are another Scouting family. I'm an ASM for our Troop and my wife is a Troop leader in the Girl Scouts.
