I was talking to SpannerBob the guy in Okmulgee, OK that was searching for parts on the site for a damaged America he bought. He said a body shop down there quoted him a price of $2,600 for a custom paint job. Is that the going rate? I guess I will never get a fancy paint job.

Did he say if that included body work for any damaged parts? That is pretty time consuming. If you want some custom paint Paul, come on up here and I can get you taken care of for way less than that.

You only have 3 tins! I think the good painters down here are about a grand.

If you look around for local artists that do allot of airbrushing stuff you can get one for allot less then the price he quoted you, do any of the prep work yourself its pretty simple to do then have someone pait it for you.

He didn't mention any body work, Dave. I think he was thinking about painting the tank and fenders he bought from another member. The body shop guy told him the paint is very expensive. I just thought that quote was pretty high.

PES --- I received a similar estimate ($ 2k+ in NJ) for a custom paint job with an air brushed picture on the tank in addition to flames all around like Ian's up above (nice!). Budget probably won't allow for all of that, so I may just do the flames, or even only the right side cover for now......airbox removal ate most of the mod budget for this year anyway. ; )

Paul, if he is a outstanding artist and you have seen his work and your reaction was..... WOW ! Then that is not a bad price....... However if that is not the case , that sounds a bit high......

Brent at the Vintage Vendor charged me around $900 to paint both fenders, tank and two side covers for my 64 Trophy. That was smoothed, sanded, primer, three coats of paint and clearcoat.
