Has anyone had their wheel rims anodised? I am looking into it but there may be an issue with the quality of the aluminium rims. Or should I just go for powder coat?

i would go with the powdercoat and have them clear coated as well anodizing always seems to change colors when exposed to allot of sun IMO

You could get them brightened and clear anodized. No problems with color fade then. The result would look very similar to chrome.

I think powder coat is the way to go, lots of color options and durability

Powder coat is very tough, just look at stock front wheels on the early SM such as my 04. That wheel looks like the day it was done.

We have an anodise tank here at work, all of aluminum parts come out with a strong golden tint. They say they can add almost any color of dye. However all these parts here get painted after anodise, the main purpose of it is corrosion prevention.

I think the 'golden tint' you speak of is an issue peculiar to that particular supplier. My father and brothers had careers in anodizing at various major manufacturers around the world and if you wanted clear it was just that, no tint apparent and no color change over time. If it was brightened first then it looked very similar to chrome.

Thanks for the advice. I spoke to the anodizing guy again. He says that the wheels are cast aluminium and that the metal isnt very high quality. Therefore the anodizing may not come out with a good finish. So powder it is!
