When my son was in high school, and probably for the entire four years, he wanted to get his lip pierced. My response was always "as soon as you think that I can't take it out go right ahead". I don't even know how many times we had this exchange.
Well he went off to college on the other side of the country (graduated HS with a 4.7 weighted GPA, hey I gotta brag a little), well he came home for winter break and his lip was pierced. I already knew about this because my wife had picked it up from our daughters.
So we picked him up at the airport and he kept trying to avoid making any kind of face to face contact with me, those who have met me may be able to understand his apprehension  . Well we sat in the car with he and I in the front seat and before I started the engine I said, "well it's about time, I was wondering if you would ever get any balls". He was speechless 
Oh. and today he's a professional chemist with a great job, great future, and no piercings.
