Today Canadians have lost their common cents... The mint stops distributing our beloved maple leaf adorned penny and we will have to rely on the generosity of the USA to supply us with those copper bits that jingle in our pockets.

Our Copper bits are presently made of Zinc, the real Copper Pennies are worth 2.5 cents , last I heard.

Yeah, they've been talkin' about doin' this same thing down here for quite a while also, but..ahem..change is always hard, ya know.

(...pun intended, of course)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I know the Canadian Penny has a maple leaf on one side and the Queen on the other side? Does this mean that the US penny will totally replace the Canadian one. Seems strange that another country (Canada) is willing to replace their coins from another country (USA). With living down here near San Diego I haven't been up North to witness how money changes hands and which penny you receive.

The government has worked hard to devalue the dollar, both US and Canadian, for 100 years just so we could get to this point. Expect the nickel to go soon as well. After all, it only worth what a penny was a few decades ago. The US government wants to do away with the $1 bill and replace it with a coin. I guess killing off the penny will leave room in the change drawer.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

More Canadians go south in the winter and bring back spare change in their pockets I find American(non copper) pennies in my pocket daily which I save cause you guys won't take our change. People turn Buffalo nickels into cuff links and Liberty Dollars into belt buckles which would be illegal up here if we did the same with our equivalent I am told.

Funny, just recently there was talk of our "leader" directing the Federal Treasury/U.S Mint (a true misnomer for it's function)to coin several Trillion$$ coins in platinum to pay off the Federal debts. Save those Conferate dollars boys!

If the US goes to a dollar coin, our strippers are going to have to learn a whole new skillset for accepting tips.

Cut it up.

Susan B Anthony and Sacagawea: Dollar coins have been tried and are still in circulation. Not too successful eh?

Strippers? . . . they have been adapting for millennia.

I think the only ones using these is the Post Office. Buy a stamp from a vending machine and that's all you get in change. It was good when the grandkids were little and they got all those "gold dollars" for their birthdays. Now, even they don't want 'em.
