My best little buddy, so the story went, had been tossed in a dumpster with his sibling. We're inseparable. I swapped out my truck for a Subaru so he could ride with us year round. He lives for mountain biking and hiking. I attached a padded bin to the rack on my KLR and the first time he tried it out we took a 600 mile trip.

He's 'dealing' with the puppy right now. Not too bad at all. I'm just letting him know that he's still the prince of the city.

When you enter Canada you are required to show proof of rabies vaccination for your dog. I took Smokey's and put it in a small blue folder with a picture of him on the other side.

At the border crossing I passed our passport to the custom's official. When he got to the last one he examined it and handed it to me saying, "Your dog can have his passport back."

(...we're pretty sure he's one of those Tasmanian Spaniels....you know, half Spaniel and half Tasmanian Devil...well, at least he ACTS that way some of the time, anyway!)

It dont matter what breed or what size, they've all got "that look" in their eyes! That make grown men (and women) do silly things. Awesome animals you've all got.

I'd rather ride it than clean it!!!!

A few days ago my wife was looking at the Brother Wolf website. They're a 'no kill' shelter. There was this sweet 10 year old golden retriever up for adoption. According to the description the owner had gotten a new puppy and decided to dump this sweet dog after 10 years.

WTF is wrong with some people? A golden retriever, for God's sake!

We were getting ready to go and adopt her to live out her days with some love and dignity and saw that a family with three kids adopted her. There were these wonderful pics of this beautiful dog with the whole family loving on her. She looked so happy.

I'll bet it was the best day of her life.

People like that should not be able to have a rat! When we got Samson we were going to adopt a six year old choclate, Coco. The guy let this little ball of fur out of his cage and we went home with both for a prety good deal (I think)if we promised not to breed him.We also now have another,Daisie. She is a sitsu, yappy little thing.

I couldn't imagine abandoning a dog, even the ones I have had that didn't always behave. I always say you don't get rid of a retarded child. Any dog no matter the breed retriever, spaniel, shepard, pit, what have you. My dogs are family and loved as such. I watched part of a documentary about pitbulls, I think it was called beyond the myth. A city (don't remember what one) passed a law making them illegal. They proceeded to go around taking peoples family pets and killing them. My dogs are mostly harmless but I wouldn't want to be in an intruders shoes that raised a hand to one of my grand kids. All 110 lbs of Porkchop would be all over them. He even gets between me and them when I am tickling them to be sure all is OK.

Yep, I'm also havin' a little problem wrappin' my head around the idea that some morons would ever purposely dump a dog off at the pound they've had as a member of the family for 10 years and replace it with a "newer model"!

(...what?!...is this some kinda new take on the "Trophy Wife" syndrome or somethin'???)

I ended up with Porkchop because I wouldn't let him go to the pound.

Pound Pups are the best. We had a Keeshond for almost 17 years and our current Lab/Spaniel is definitely in charge.

She has her own cat, but that's another story.

Ivan has his own cat too. They are as thick as thieves.

I'll see if I can find the pix, I know of a pair of great danes that are family pets where one is blind and the other acts as the eyes for them both and they are inseperable.

Anything I post you can always know my little pal is lying next to me, or slightly on me, as close as is possible.
