I am not afraid to say I absolutely will not sign such a thing. The military are not more equal than any other American. How bout the nurse, teacher, fireman, police officer? They don't count as much as you?

You were not drafted, you applied for the job. Pay your taxes like everybody else and thank you, for your service. You are welcome for the pay, medical, GI Bill, and retirement benefits your nation bestowed upon you for that service.

Ahemmm...

First, if you don't want to sign the petition, then don't. I respect that, but you have no idea if I was originally drafted or not when I started in the military, do ya?

Second, if you feel that nurses, policemen. firefighters, garbage collectors, or anyone else deserves as much of a break on their federal taxes as military retirees, then start another petition, and I'll sign that one too. Why do you presume that because I support this petition, that I feel I'm any "better" than these other folks or wouldn't support an effort on their behalf to afford more farkles? Besides, nurses, police, firefighters, and teachers are all occupational specialties within the military, so these folks WOULD be included. Additionally, there are scores of people in these same occupations as civilians who serve in the national guard and reserves, so they would be included as well when they retired. This means that I didn't exclude them, YOU did.

Third, signing a WH petition does nothing more than elicit a response from the appropriate office in the administration once the requisite number of signatures is acquired within the 30 day period. Most of the replies I've read have been in the order of "Thanks for the suggestion, but we won't be doing anything on this." or "The administration does not support blowing up other planets."

Fourth, I'm not only proud to have served my country in uniform long enough to have retired, I am grateful for the chance and good health to have been able to do it. If you think I feel I'm "better" than anyone else for having done it, then you obviously don't know me at all.

Fifth, while I wouldn't mind a tax break on my retirement or any other income if I could get it, why is this a bad thing? Do you not claim every deduction and credit you can get on your own taxes? Does your crafty use of the Earned Income Credit mean you are better than those (like me) who have no idea WTF that is?

Sixth, I posted the petition more as a tongue in cheek thing, and this is pretty apparent if you notice my "masterful use of the asterisk.* and the farkle reference" Heck, even the link I added was a dead end.

Seventh, You are a big poopyhead if you don't sign the BS petition or start one for the nurses, dog catchers, police, and firefighters.

It's all good! Keep smiling!
