There have been some exciting playoff games. I was depressed yesterday when my Broncos lost in double overtime to the Ravens. I forgot to watch SF but they were apparently pretty awesome. I just finished watching as Atlanta squeaked by the Sea Hawks. Yes I know, my life is boring and I watch too much TV as I go back in and watch the Patriot/Houston game..

From the way San Fran looked last night, Atlanta is gonna get a beat down next week. The Denver Baltimore game, bummer for Peyton, I'd like to see him with more superbowl wins than his idiot mouthbreathing brother, but cool for #52. Right now I'm watching possibly the greatest QB OF ALL TIME in Tom Brady.

The Broncos really blew that game. And not just that failure of the Broncos' DBs to allow the Ravens' wide receiver to get behind them with 31 seconds on the clock, but ESPECIALLY because of the bad, or maybe better said, the lack of imaginative play calling on a couple of the Broncos' drives in OT. TWICE they had 2nd and short in OT, and not one PLAY-ACTION PASS was called in order to freeze the Ravens' LBs at the line by a PLAY-ACTION PASS and go for big yardage when they needed it. Nope, their result for a running play in those situations was once BARELY getting the first down on the very next play(a 3rd and short situation), and the other and even more critical result later on was that they didn't get the first down at all and had to punt the ball away once both teams had had possession of the ball and it was now "Sudden Death Overtime" according to the new rules. (...are there NO coaches in the NFL anymore who can understand that on 2nd and 1 or 2 yards, the Defense is primarily looking for the Offense to just get that running first down in a situation like that and aren't looking for the pass???...I mean, even IF the PLAY-ACTION PASS doesn't work on second down and it goes incomplete for no big gain, you STILL have another whole freakin' down to GET the first down!!!...c'mon now, this ISN'T that hard to understand now, is IT???!!!)

I'm not going to be so hard on the Broncs, Dwight. Peyton Manning came back from neck surgery after a year off and started with a brand new team. He threw 37 touchdowns this year and their record was 13-3 and ended up top seeded in the AFC play offs. You had to admit it was a good game even though their was some bad decisions in overtime. I don't think the Broncos have anything to be ashamed of. The Patriots looked pretty good also.

We had to endure years of John Fox playing 1950s football in Carolina. I felt bad for Denver when they hired him and even worse for Peyton.
I hope Patrick Bowlen hires an OC that listens more to Peyton and less to John Fox.

Don't get me wrong here, Paul. I wasn't being hard on the Peyton Manning, I was bein' hard on some of the play calling which I thought tied the hands of the great QB.
(...this of course is predicated upon the idea that Peyton wasn't calling the plays...BUT if he WAS, then in those instances I mentioned above and in a few others I didn't mention, I feel his play-calling wasn't as good as is his usual ability to throw strikes to his receivers)

Bloody typical, I didnt get to see much of the NFL over here this year for one reason or an another but thought I'd follow the play offs and was surprised to see the Redskins on a wild card. I've always had an interest in the Redskins from when it was first shown on UK TV,(Theisman, Diesel Riggins, the Hogs etc) so I usually follow them through the season, though the last few years havent been good. But the wife clocked that they were on the other day and kindly put it on skyplus for me. Coming off a 7 game winning run, I thought, well this might be one to watch! DOH! That was a mistake wasnt it! They stopped playing after 12 mins! Hey ho, maybe next year! I'll be watching the Superbowl whoever in it! Now where's me beer??
I'd rather ride it than clean it!!!!

Garf, I knew Riggins in college and drank with him a couple of times after his pro career, he was a very nice guy in my meetings with him, he was a great all around athlete, but he was crazy when he drank. Here's an example from wiki, anyone that ever knew him was not surprised.
It was at the 1985 National Press Club's Salute to Congress at 529 14th Street NW in Washington D.C. that Riggins drunkenly told Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor to "loosen up" because she was "too tight" when the two met at dinner.[citation needed] Riggins then fell asleep under the table.[citation needed] The incident created a national stir.[citation needed] The next time Ms O'Connor and John Riggins met at a function years later, she gave him a dozen roses.[citation needed]

You name dropper you! Although I can image he'd be crazy after a beer or two, he looked crazy enough on the field without one. Thanks for info.

Riggins was a high school All-american, football, basketball and track. An older frat bother from Centralia, told me that Riggins would arrive at track meets wearing pink bib overalls, barefoot carrying a beer 5 minutes before his event, strip down, run and leave. In northeast Kansas he was a god even in high school. Name dropping? Well yes, someday I'll tell you about haveing breakfast with Ronald Reagan.

3-4 years ago Justice O'Connor was the keynote speaker at the Cowboy Poetry Gathering in Elko, NV. Originally being a ranch girl from New Mexico she told stories not exactly related to her years on the bench. For being a Supreme Court Justice, she'd fit in anywhere, very personable.
I remember she said she graduated at or near the top of her law class. First law firm job interview and she being a she, they offered her a job as a secretary.

No doubt O'Conner was an ass kick cowgirl as a youth, she was smart, she had a sense of humor, note she gave the dozen roses to John Riggins.

Personally, I think getting past the Patriots will be a walk in the park compared to getting past the Forty Niners.
I'm not a fan of any of the remaining teams but they are, by far, the best team I've seen the past 4 weeks. They are so much better than they were a year ago.

What? 3 of the 4 teams left were in this same situation last year, the AFC Championship is a rematch of last years AFC Championship, and San Francisco was in the NFC Championship game last year, barely losing to that idiot mouthbreather Eli Manning in OT

He was a whiny piss b¡tch at his draft, and threatened retirement if San Diego drafted him (which they did, then immediately traded him). F that guy. I really despise any rookie that acts like they can hold out, or demand what team they get to play for, or whatever as an unproven nobody in the NFL. They should just be happy they get to play a sport and make millions of dollars as a career. It has worked out so far for the mouthbreather, but he's not nearly as good of a QB as his brother, or as good as sports media makes him out to be.

interesting read... Quote:
The Baltimore Colts owned the top pick and looked poised to land a quarterback capable of building on the remarkable legacy set by John Unitas, but Elway had different ideas. First, he publicly stated he refused to join the Colts, feeling the team would not allow him to be successful, then, after Baltimore selected him anyway, he demanded a trade.
Interestingly enough, his leverage came from his ability to play baseball. Elway batted .361 at Stanford and had been drafted by the New York Yankees back in 1981. By the time the football draft rolled around, he had spent two summers with the organization, and threatened to devote himself to basebal fulltime.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2776891
looks like he had other options, Eli said he would "retire"

Yep John was quite the player in both sports. If I recall his father Jack was named the football coach at Stanford after John moved on to bigger things.

My mom loved John Elway. She and dad lived in Denver at the time. Denver fans are very fickle and even in the hard times she never badmouthed ole Johnny. My son got an autographed Elway #7 jersey under glass from his mom this past Christmas. Elway was the original comeback kid.

You're blaming the guy for holding out to go to a team that he could do something with in his career... If you're good enough and the demand is there...then so be it. Elway did the same thing and it's not like the model has never been seen before. I hear all this talk about the brothers but truth is Peyton was flat...you wouldn't see Eli throwing an interception like that when the playoff game was on the line.

Sports radio here in Atlanta quoted as saying "if the Falcons can get by the Seahawks, they WILL go to the Superbowl".....Well, as a life long fanatic of the Falcons, I have seen what they can do....In 1998, the Atlanta Journal Constitution used the largest print in history to write across the headlines "YIKES, IT'S THE VIKES!!" as we traveled to Minneapolis for the NFC Championship game against the Vikings....We were fierce underdogs, but simply wanted it more, and won the game by a Morton Anderson Field goal, sending us to the Superbowl against Denver....I can easily see the same, if not better, happening Sunday against San Francisco. The bottom line, is, when we desperately need to get yardage, we always do, so Im hoping again for the Falcons to have a FAST start, get as many points as possible agains the 49ers, and hope our defense can contain Colin Kapernick in at least one of his many capacities.....He is gonna be HARD to stop!

I predict he'll throw three pics.

Seein' as how "That Woman" moved "my" ol' team from L.A. to St. Louis, I really haven't had a team I REALLY root for since then. However, and while I realize the following will sound as if I've jumped on the "Patriot Bandwagon", because I've always liked Belichick's gutsy play calling(he seems to be the ONE coach who WILL call a Play-Action Pass on 2nd and short, just as ONE example), I've kinda been rooting for the Pats for years now. (...and now that I've said this, let the old "Belichick's a cheater" rants now begin)

So far, the playoffs have come down to incompetent DB play. I imagine, we will see more exciting football and better football this week end than we will in the Super Bowl.

Dwight, I've been a Pats fan since they had Drew Bledsoe back in the 90's and remember them losing to Brett Favre's Packers in the 96-97 season...
And sorry about the Rams, but you can have them back if I can have the Cardinals back

I live in Kansas City and yes the Chiefs suck, but I will never get comfortable saying, "Saint Louis Rams" or "Arizona Cardinals". It took me a decades to quit saying, "Baltimore Colts". I didn't like it, but I found it easier to accept the Latin Mass said in English.

Yeah. But I have to say it WAS always fun watching Mike Martz's old "Greatest Show on Turf" offense do their thing back during the St.Louis Rams glory years.
And ironically, Kurt Warner and his quick release always reminded me a lot of the old St.Louis Cardinals' QB Jim Hart.
(...though you might be a little too young to remember Jim Hart)

Aside from that, I was off in the Army while the Rams were any good, and I really never took a liking to them when they got here, so I haven't been able to call myself a fan. I've been to as many games at Arrowhead to watch the Chiefs as I have to the dome to watch the Rams... and you can tickets usually for 10 buck or less here!

Agreed, Gonzo is deserving and was a huge difference in last weekend’s game. A great end is a key factor in today's pass happy NFL game.

I agree Tony G. is a nice guy, he's always been into personal improvement, like acting lessons and braces on his teeth, etc, while here in KC. I've never heard anything bad from fans that have met him.
