The Broncos really blew that game. And not just that failure of the Broncos' DBs to allow the Ravens' wide receiver to get behind them with 31 seconds on the clock, but ESPECIALLY because of the bad, or maybe better said, the lack of imaginative play calling on a couple of the Broncos' drives in OT.
TWICE they had 2nd and short in OT, and not one PLAY-ACTION PASS was called in order to freeze the Ravens' LBs at the line by a PLAY-ACTION PASS and go for big yardage when they needed it. Nope, their result for a running play in those situations was once BARELY getting the first down on the very next play(a 3rd and short situation), and the other and even more critical result later on was that they didn't get the first down at all and had to punt the ball away once both teams had had possession of the ball and it was now "Sudden Death Overtime" according to the new rules.
(...are there NO coaches in the NFL anymore who can understand that on 2nd and 1 or 2 yards, the Defense is primarily looking for the Offense to just get that running first down in a situation like that and aren't looking for the pass???...I mean, even IF the PLAY-ACTION PASS doesn't work on second down and it goes incomplete for no big gain, you STILL have another whole freakin' down to GET the first down!!!...c'mon now, this ISN'T that hard to understand now, is IT???!!!)
