Up here in upstate NY we hit a high close to 60 today. I thought this would be an opportunity to get in a rare January ride. The conditions were not optimal however. The bike was not really ready to ride and not in the most accessible part of the garage. I hooked up the battery yesterday, put the charger on and hoped that I would get a chance to ride. The riding window was small, because we were having my son’s 13th birthday party today. But I thought I might get out for about an hour.

So yesterday the bike was sitting in the garage charging. I live in the boonies, and at some point during the evening, one of the feral cats in the area popped into the garage and sprayed the back of my bike. Rear tire, Fender, back of one saddlebag and the Corbin seat that was setting on the ground next to the tire. All splattered with that foul smelling *****. Instead of a nice ride this afternoon, I was worked on cleansing that stench. That cat has hit my truck a couple of times. A trip through the car wash will deal with it, and that is what I have done in the past, but this is too much.

One of my presents to my son was an Airsoft gun. Did some research on the web and all an Airsoft gun will do at @ 20 feet is sting you. Tunafish is cheap. A can of that should be good bait and I will be waiting for that !&%@($% tomcat. Hopefully one good scare is all it takes. Wish me luck, and for those of you who do not approve of this, feel free to come up to my house and humanely capture that sob.

We have a number of rogue cats around here.
My wife hates them. One of these days they might start having accidents.

Here Kitty,Kitty,Kitty,..Bang! Or tape a plastic coke bottle over the end first,if it's a .22 and you don't want to upset the neighbours.

Actually Carl, for an "Insane Viking" you're letting the side down a little aren't you? Airsoft? What happened to splitting it in two with a battle axe?

I'm sure your Avatar "Gomez" would have taken care of it with some throwing knives or dynamite!

Here's a "non-violent" suggestion for eliminating the unwanted feline (or any other small critter for that matter) 1 tblsp of good ol' anti-freeze (polypropylene clycol based) in a saucer of milk, or mixed with the tuna fish will either make the critter very, very ill, or put and end to it altogether.

I've heard a couple of crushed up aspirins in a saucer of milk will do the same thing but have no hard evidence. It may just stop the feline getting headaches!
Wouldn't the smell of the anti-freeze keep the cat from drinking or consumming the stuff?

We had a serious cat infestation back in the day at the frat house. We had so many cats in our trash, they would turn over our large galvanized trashcans at night. After much brain storming, we decided to electrocute them, the body count was 31, the down side was we had to buy new trashcans.

The antifreeze solution is far from non violent. It would be a slow agonizing death.A couple of years ago my cousins two Rottweilers got into a drain pan full of the stuff.Anti freeze has a very sweet taste. It was not a pretty sight.Ultimately they were taken to the vet and put down, there was nothing they could do for them.
Perhaps you have a neighbor who you're not really fond of? Trap the critter and deliver him there in the dark of night.

Can't agree with the anti-freeze or any other poison. I like cats, and dogs and almost all critters. Having said that, a feral cat is no better than a rat. Either trap and dispose of or shoot it with a real gun.

Oh heck yeah! A painfull method of poisoning is DEFINETlY less violent then a quick shot to the head. Yeah antifreeze wil be licked up quickly by any cat or dog, kidney faiure, seizures painful vomiting, damn hateful solution.

Sprinkle some cayenne pepper or chili powder on the ground around the area they're getting in. I've had to do this a time or two and it'll discourage 'em from coming around.

I just heard on the radio, our local cleaning expert.

To remove cats ssip use white vinegar. But aparently cats can spray for 12 ft, so it can be every where. Ultra violet light will hi-light it, so you can clean it all up.

To keep the cats from ssipping in you garage, they do not like camphor, it seems to iritate their mucous membranes. So spread some naptha flakes or moth balls around the shed and the cats should stay away.

Many moons back cowboys would carry a camphor soaked rope when on the range.
When bedding down in the open they lay the rope in circle around their bedroll to keep the assorted critters away.

Moth balls also seem to work to keep mice away. I use it in and around my antique cars. (Mice will even crawl into areas in a motorcycle, where they can do a lot of damage to wiring.)

+1 on cayenne pepper or camphor.

I did that when cats started using my garden as litter box. Now, they're gone.

That black light trick and the vinegar sounds like a good trick. I took the bags off cause they still smelled, even after a good cleaning. I scrubbed the seat using windex (hated doing that to the leather) and then treated that section with mink oil, which did a great job at masking the oder. The fender was thoroughly washed and the tire wiped down. I then went for a nice ride today. The wet roads from snow melt, combined with sand/salt probably scrubbed the rest off. Stink is down to about 10% of what it was, but still noticable.

I dont want to kill the cat, just to keep him away so the solutions such as anti-freeze etc. are out. But mothballs & cayenne pepper are something I may try. Between the coyotes and cars, I doubt those cats have that long of a lifespan anyway. I'll keep the garage door down for now, but the problem is residual stink. I am sure they can smell it long after its faded to much for us to smell. Probably the only real solution is sell her and get a T-bird Storm.

I don't know, Bill. Seems that might begin a whole chain of unintended consequences, if you ask me.

'Cause THEN Carl might have to import some Mountain Lions just to take care of his new "feral DOG problem"!

And after THAT, what would he have to introduce to this new "ecosystem" in order to take care of his new "MOUNTAIN LION problem", HUH???

(...and I have NO idea what kind of animal he'd have to use to get rid of THAT!...do YOU???...elephants MAYBE?!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I went to help my son work on one of the houses he's remodeling. I took a bunch of tools but forgot the one I needed most, my air pistol (aka 'cat pistol'). The place was crawling with cats.

My dog wanted to take them out but I really didn't want him mixing it up with those filthy vermin.
