I bought one of these last year for my America to use for mechanical work, but also to lift it off the ground during our cold winters. Good deal here for the after-Christmas shoppers. use the Coupon code 90656321 to get it for $79. Harbor Freight 1500 lb lift

I'll share this again, and I found it first here on this forum.

Best first money spent after I bought my SM, and I'm still using it a lot today, some 8 1/2 years and 90K later....I never did get around to investing in a good one. web page$20.00 Bike Lift

Someone also had posted something similar here a few years back. The link is probably in the Tech Vault and I'm too lazy to look for it.

I've got one of these Canadian Tire lifts and they work well. They regularly go on sale several times a year for half price. I've had mine for several years now with no problems. Bike is currently sitting on mine in my son's shed.

I have the same one, Greg although I use it primarily for my bush bike. I mostly lift my Triumph with a homemade and extremely inexpensive lift-o-matic contraption I made myself from stuff just lying around.

I have been using the same unit for over two years, I like the fact that I can move the bike around the garage when up (always use a tie down).

Ride like you mean it.

Thanks, Greg.

That's really all I've ever needed, and kept outside, not taking up any valuable space in the garage...weathers well.

Gets the rear wheel up and levels the bike as a center stand would for cleaning, maintenance, etc.

Easy to build, inexpensive, and practical.

For twice the price of the better CRAFTSMAN motorcycle/ATV lift, I think you could actually by a nice pneumatic ramp, like you would have in a shop....

Those DIY things are great. I used to have one... I made it with a 2X3 handle instead of a pipe, so it was even cheaper. I used a carpet scrap to protect the frame.

I know this is completely contrary to the low cost theme of this thread but, I bought one of these in 2004 and it was some of the best money I ever spent. Have had just about every style of bike up on it at one time or another.

I picked up a Harbor Freight one last weekend. I really just need it for oil changes and chain maintenance... But what's nice is I can roll the bike against the wall! FLOOR SPACE!

I got a Harbor Freight bike lift about 5 years ago as a Christmas present, thinking the same thing. Chain maintenance is a breeze, oil change was a mess of a disaster. Just not practical to fit an oil pan underneath. It ran/dripped everywhere. I'm thinking of making up one of those cheap wood lifts for next oil change.
Just be sure to have a tie-down strap to keep your bike steady when she's up in the air.

I got one of those about four years ago after my Costco aluminum jack failed.

Pricey but I figured at least with a Sears jack I could always get parts/service.
I also wanted an aluminum jack for ease of mobility if needed.

What I do for that is slide the jack in BEHIND the oil filter so the rear pad is almost touching the rear wheel. Then lift it up just enough to put the bike upright, basically like a center stand. Plenty of room for an oil pan then.

I'll see if I can do that. I just remember it was quite the mess. She's due for an oil change this year.
Thanks !

I never use a jack for an oil change, I just slide my pan under it with the kickstand on a block to put the bike close to vertical and wait until it isn't dripping any more oil at all. Then stand it up by hand to get any remainder out. Nothing in the way that way and no mess. I have a small stainless pan from a warming table I use to catch the oil but cutting the bottom off a plastic 5 gallon jug works well too.

The lowest cost there is. Lift it and do oil changes, wheel removal, general cleaning, etc. I made it, love it and continue to use it year after year.

No prob. I had made a wooden one once, and remembered how nice it was to slide it front to bag to pick up either the front or rear wheel, so I applied the same principal Makes it kind of like a tripod...
