"Whether 'tis nobler in the owner's mind to suffer
the loss of power of outrageous fortune,
Or to take action against a sea of stock parts,
And by opposing remove/freak them? 'tis a consummation."
After reading posts about the Freak Kit, the Ghetto Freak Kit and Brokenfixed's Jersey solution (sweet, btw), I am left pondering....is it worth it?
Under the tree (for about 12 more hours) is my Triumph How-To Manual. I bought it as recommended by a member (Marty) so that I can learn more about re-jetting since swapping my pipes. I hope this will give me the guts to move forward. But before I re-jet, I'm considering going all-the-way and removing the airbox.
Here I am, a newb. I might be afraid to commit to removing the back wheel, the fender, the battery, the air box. Ok, I'm a puss. I have put a license plate frame on, swapped my horns, de-baffled and even swapped pipe slip-ons. But those are cosmetic things. (Yes, I consider the license plate frame a mod.) But making changes to the way the engineers at Triumph intended the bike to operate makes be a bit cowardly.
I like the cheese graters and covers. I want to keep them in tact if possible for tool storage. I want to do it right. Any other newbs out there who made this leap, or experts, that can push me over the edge? I wish I had a neighbor/friend in Minnesota who has a similar bike, but all these suburban bikers ride in my neighborhood are crotch rockets or HDs. Nut up right?
"And enterprises of great pith and moment
With this regard their modifications turn awry,
And lose the name of action. - mod you now!
The fair Bonneville America, in thy orisons
Be all my sins remember'd."
