God I hate the wave...I really do. I just want to ride the darn bike and focus on what I love. I don't wave to everyone in a Ford when I am driving.

Now, WHAT'S with all this crap in this thing where they say..."And if you act within the next 10 minutes, we'll throw in a free righthanded model for you Australians who ride on the wrong side of the road!"??? Now WHY the hell are they pickin' on those poor Aussies down there, HUH?! I mean, they're NOT the ONLY poor suckers who ride on the wrong side of the road, ya know!!! I mean ya got your Limeys, and ya got your Scots(which reminds me, I think I'll pour another two fingers of my Balvenie Single Malt right now) and ya got your Kiwis, and ya got your Japanese, and ya got your Indians(the ones over there in India that is, NOT the kind who own all the casinos in the States now), and ya got your Irish, and ya got your Swedes(oh wait, that's right, THEY USED to drive on the wrong side of the road but they eventually wised up, so never mind this one), and ya got your.......
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

If i'm riding in really Sh!tty weather and pass another rider, I'll wave. That's some camaraderie there. Sometimes just too many on the nice days. And Dwight, as much as I do like that Balvenie stuff (and I do like it) tonight is some Oban single malt that my son bought me for my birthday (he's a good son ) a bit more peaty and very smooth

Implying our Aussie friends take their hand off the throttle each time they wave, which puts me to thinking. How do you guys down under (and everywhere else Dwight mentioned), wave? Do you lift your left hand upward so as to be seen (unlike the way we all point at the ground over here which would I imagine makes it hard for the wave to be noticed from the opposite side of the motorcycle), and if you do lift your left hand, wouldn't that be construed as a right hand turn signal? Just curious.

MAN...now you just never give UP, do ya Pete!
Listen very carefully now...I ONLY ever ride on the opposite of the right(i.e. the wrong, or if your prefer the "left") side of the road whenever passin' a bunch of slow-ass Harley riders(or the occasional RV, SUV, family sedan OR truck, of course) on a two lane road, and ONLY when I can see NOBODY is comin' the other way at me!!!
Wait a minute. I thought Harleys WERE RVs, SUVs, or trucks. You mean they don't actually serve ANY purpose?

Thanks for the funny vid. I laughed! And, I confess, I'm a waver. Sometimes I wave cause I'm happy to be out there, and I'm happy. Sometimes I wave just because if I don't, I worry about the other guy thinking I'm a dick if I don't. (Dave doesnt have THAT problem!) But I confess, I'm getting a little tired of it. But my perchant is to ride on out of the way roads, as far in the outback as I can manage, so I don't see many other riders on the little roads.

I give everyone SOME sort of recognition, wave, nod, whatever. I DO NOT want them to think I'm riding a Milwaukee noise and smoke generator by not giving some sort of salutation.
I can only handle so much embarrassment.

When I'm REALLY out there (i.e. pavement optional) I'm usually on the KLR. I make it a point to gesture somehow (though a wave can be problematic). I figure if they are THAT far out there's a good chance they are crazy so cover all the bases.

Actually Warren, I MAY be of some help in this regard. You see, when our much loved and now sadly departed Friar John was here in Sedona last June, he gave me his impression of JR's wave that he saw when he was at the Georgia rally just a few weeks earlier, and it gave me a pretty good laugh. (...it might best be described as, let us say, "wildly frenetic" in style!)
