Never thought of that. I wonder why they abandoned the temples and some cities. Probably searching for food.
There's as many theories as temples including food shortages, drought, civil revolution, common infections , infections from ritual cannibalism to even a change in trade routes. No one knows, construction slowly decreased and populations dispersed. Evidently the last guy to leave didn't chisel an explanation or goodbye note.
