 question about cdi relocation

to those who have done this, if i wanted to move it to under the seat. can i do this by just cutting the tape around the main harness and pull the cdi wiring back from where it t's into the main harness. or is it actually connected there and need all wires spliced and extended? hope that makes sense. thanks.

Let me know what you find, I was wondering the same thing. I'm not sure what routes any of the wires take.

I searched for a set of connectors to make a jumper that would do thid exact modification; I came up empty. The manufacturer makes the female as a cable mount but the male is designed as a chassis mount and has no shell, so no jumper for me. My guess is you'll have to extend the wires because the igniter circuit runs fore and aft and isn't a bundle you can reroute.

No, you cant cut the wire loom and move it. The reason being that the wire from the CDI go in both directions resulting in no additional wiring to move it backwards.
I also looked into the plugs and found the same thing Oldroadie did... I have the plugs sitting in the garage as I was gonna make a relo harness and try it out but time just hasn't been there to assemble it.

Hey Z, did you get one of the chassis mount males? I wanted one just to see if I coud fab up a working shell but never got around to ordering one. That's the last piece to a relocation jumper that I had planned to build before I got discouraged.

Yeah... Thats the only way it seems ot be available (chassis mount). My idea was to cut the angles off and solder wire directly to the pins, heat shrink or fill the void with hot glue (or epoxy if I could find it). Right about the time I was ready to start working on it I learned the female side was not pinned and I didn't get any pins so I had to order those. JEEZ  I didn't want the pre wired one because I noticed (when I cut the loom to inspect) that there are different gauge wires in there. I figured I would just make my own and use the correct size wire.  BTW... by the time I was done buying everything I think Im into it for about $100 in parts for two harnesses.

I cut and soldered in extra wire. Put it under my seat. 5000 miles trouble free!
