That's the lamest thing I've ever seen or heard. Just the sound of the engine w/o pics? They're as bad as Triumph in the tease department. After having ridden a new Indian a couple of years ago, they are definitely overdue for a new engine and chassis.

Polaris is in a unique position in that they're still manufacturing Indians in Spirit Lake under the Stellican Kings Mountain design, yet they're engineering a completely new Indian for the 2014 MY with updated technology and what sounds like a great engine. They want to continue building and selling the old Indians while keeping the new machine under wraps. It looks to me like they're making the old Indians VERY pricey and limiting production. I love the look of the current Indians but seriously, who's buying the old design at a premium price when you know the new Polaris Indians will be out in another 7 months or so?

I'm wondering here if producing these new Indians in the larger Victory/Polaris facility might actually help reduce the costs of them, as compared to where and how the "older" newer Indians where manufactured by hand and in much smaller facilities. I guess we'll see, eh?!
And yep, I'll bet the new engines will have balance shafts in 'em, because one of the most often mentioned critiques of the reborn Indians(including its 2nd-Generation Power Plus engine) was its H-D Evo derived design and the excessive vibration both variations of them generated.

Dwight, there are a lot of folks waiting with baited breath to see if, or how much, the Indian price will drop. We shall see indeed. I demo'ed an Indian a couple of years ago and didn't notice the vibration so much as I noticed the torque. Lots and lots of torque.

Yep Rich, that was certainly the rap on the original Gilroy Indians alright, what with their S&S H-D clone motors...though at least there was SOME attempt done by that firm later on to make a more proprietary "Indian" looking motor with the advent of the Power Plus heads on it.
But yeah, even that was pretty much a half-measure and really didn't do all that much to escape that rap, huh! Maybe it's because the original Springfield MA Indian company never made a OHV V-Twin, as they were always Flathead designs.
(...of course, I suppose the same argument could be made about modern Triumphs, as all old Meriden-built bikes were of pushrod design, and were never DOHC-ers like our modern ones)

Good post there, Kevin. The Indian Motorcycle Co. recently put out 6 videos, one of which was the vid you posted the link to. Here`s a link to all 6 videos. http://www.youtube.com/user/TheIndianMotorcycle/videos?view=0I enjoyed them all, but the most interesting to me was where they featured a cutaway motor of the first year chief. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK4X2jpsXZkThere really is a lot of history surrounding Indian and the resurrection thereof. The attention to heritage and quality is akin to that of Triumph and I really do hope Polaris will finally make it come together. If I had the bux, I would consider the purchase of a brand new Indian!
Live to love, love to live.

Cool vid with the cut away there. Interesting how that cut away had a gear to gear primary like our modern Triumphs. I have always liked that set up over a primary chain.
