Yep Rich, that was certainly the rap on the original Gilroy Indians alright, what with their S&S H-D clone motors...though at least there was SOME attempt done by that firm later on to make a more proprietary "Indian" looking motor with the advent of the Power Plus heads on it.
But yeah, even that was pretty much a half-measure and really didn't do all that much to escape that rap, huh! Maybe it's because the original Springfield MA Indian company never made a OHV V-Twin, as they were always Flathead designs.
(...of course, I suppose the same argument could be made about modern Triumphs, as all old Meriden-built bikes were of pushrod design, and were never DOHC-ers like our modern ones)
