Like Chris said, I already know I'm an ass, all my closest friends know that about me, and most of the people I've met from here can tell you I rarely miss the opportunity to say what's really on my mind 
My wife is not mad, in fact just 20 minutes ago she asked me if I would go with her to the funeral on Sunday night. I'm going, and I'll be nice. And quiet. 
My initial reaction was one of anger about the situation. Nobody is free of mistakes, I understand that, but I still reserve the right to be furious at general stupidity.
Good on ya. As I alluded to in an earlier post, and this might apply ONLY to me, but when in doubt I usually go with what my wife thinks.
To use the term "better half" would be a gross understatement (unless you're referring to which lobe of my brain functions better).
In fact, I can't recall saying to myself, "Man, I wish I had ignored Ruth and gone ahead and...(joined the circus or become a street corner mime or bought a Harley, whatever)."
