The wife and i just booked a week in Las Vegas at the end of march . its a bit of a family thing (the wifes family ,her parents 50th wedding anniversary)anyways we're taking a few extra days to do some touring around on a rental bike (looking at a Goldwing at the moment but it may end up being a HD )for 2 or 3 days. i have looked around this interweb thing and found some great looking places to ride .Valley of Fire Loop and the Hoover dam,Mount Charleston/Lee Canyon Rd,Red Rock canyon rd . so i thought id ask all you experienced Las Vegans(actual vegans are welcome to post too ) for any info on Vegas things todo or roads around to ride would be appreciated ,especially info on the Grand Canyon.we would both really like to see that ,but we're not gonna sit on a bus with my Father in Law for X amount of hours (he was a luxury coach/bus and truck driver most of his life)so interested in how long would it take to ride there and back . thanks for all and any info.

Yeah, Red Rock is RIGHT THERE, literally at the edge of town and well worth it. Mt. Charleston is very cool because it's very different from other spots. Valley of Fire is cool bu farther.
If you've never been to Zion NP it's about 3 - 3 1/2 hours. One of my favorite places in the world. Grand Canyon isn't all that far either.
If you want one helluva a hike, head down to Havasu Falls off Rt. 66 in AZ. You've probably seen tons of pics of it but thought it was on a tropical island somewhere.

Others know the area better but I like Zion canyon and want I'd like to do the Skywalk over the Grand Canyon which are opposite directions but you did say 2-3 days. If base is in Vegas then both are possible.
Passengers love Goldwings tunes cranked up and admiring the scenery.

We've rented bikes at Eagle Rider two years in a row... Red Rocks is a great "warm up" ride to get to know the bike you are on....one year we did it in afternoon of the first day; this year we finished the day at Red Rocks after a longer journey to Mt. Charleston. Eagle Rider has a good selection of bikes too...I was on a Harley Softail Heritage --- nice bike, but all it made me do is miss my America... But the folks there were excellent, and gave us a discount as returning customers this year. Crossing the dam is fun, even if you just go across and return without stopping. We'd seen the dam already during another trip, so we just rode across with our other riding buddies --- it was very cool. ...then head off to Valley of Fire...it's a nice ride there --- we saw hardly any cars, and then nice hikes and some fun twisties inside the park. Great views of Lake Mead along the way. Take a detour here and there to one of the boat launches... Ernie

The Red Rock loop (13 miles, one way) is pretty cool, used to be more fun before the rangers started watching it closely. They time bikes around the loop and if you get through too soon, they ticket you, so you have to stop and rest which is OK since the scenery is pretty spectacular.
Mount Charleston is a nice ride too but can be icy in March. a good one to keep on the list if the weather cooperates.
Valley of Fire, Lake Mead's North Shore road, Over the Hump, some smaller roads like Nelson can be worthwhile.
The dam ride is better now that traffic bypasses on the bridge, used to be so slow that it wasn't fun at all.
Some of the Arizonites like Becky or Dwight might have some better info on Grand Canyon. The North Rim is nice but again Spring weather can be a factor.
I would think that Zion, or Cedar Breaks, or The Grand canyon would be overnighters. I wouldn't want to do them on a day trip.

Yep Gordie, Bill is right about the Spring(March) weather factor thing in any Grand Canyon ride you might consider around that time of year, and in fact much of northern AZ's roads can be covered in snow depending upon the timing of the cold fronts which might move through the area during this time of year. However, IF the weather permits while you and your wife are on this ride, and IF you guys do indeed decide to take that ride to the Grand Canyon(about 3.5 hours from Hoover Dam), and IF you might consider adding a night layover in beautiful Sedona(about 2.5 hours from the Canyon) after visiting that big ol' hole in the ground, THEN I just happen to know a guy who wouldn't mind having you two stay there for the evening before headin' back to Sin City! (...and word is he EVEN has a reasonably good stash of Single Malts...maybe not as good as YOURS, but reasonably good anyway)
Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Zion National Park for sure! Absolutely beautiful.

Thanks for the replies guys . i never really gave the weather in and around Vegas much thought, seems it might be an issue for some of the longer rides .so we'll just have to stick to the shorter routes ,unless the weather isnt a factor. Ernie / Devfan82 did you book way in advance or just turn up an see what was available . i,m lookin at EagleRiders Goldwing $165 a day seems reasonable enough ,any sneeky hidden charges . thanks for all the info
