Can i not just take the chrome nut (the one between the risers on the top tripple tree) off, losen the two fork clamp bolts on the tree and lift the hole thing off with the handlebars, slide the shrouds off and put the bars back down until i replace the shrouds, then just tighten everything up? I would not even have to losen the bottom fork clamp bolts i think. This nut has nothing to do with the bearings and stuff for steering right? I have never had any of that off so not sure, just want to powdercoat the top shrouds.




Yes you can, exactly as your thinking!
Just have a towel around that tank so you dont scratch it by accident. those cables keep things nice and tight and the bars make it unstable. Maybe two or three towels just in case. Thats how I chipped my tank once. Pissed me right the F off.
